Wine Trails, by Lonely Planet

May 1, 2016 by Dave2 Comments

52 perfect wine weekends await ... brought to life by Wine Trails, a hard-cover Lonely Planet published guide to 327 wineries spread throughout 20 countries. From France to the United States, this book covers the best of the old world with the new world. Coverage provided for each region is refreshingly not overwhelming - a short introduction is listed followed by a handful of recommended wineries (often both small and larger). The coverage … [Read more...]

Marchesi Antinori Chianti Classico Cellar: Tuscany, Italy – May 2016

May 1, 2016 by Dave2 Comments

After 600 years, the Antinori Family, arguably Italy's most well-known wine family opened their newest estate winery to the public in early 2013 (by appointment). The cellar is located about 25 minutes from Florence and 30 minutes from Siena. While this is a large winery (67,000 square feet), its physical footprint is barely seen because the entire winery and parking facilities are located underground and are built into the side of a hill. The … [Read more...]

Daytona Beach, Florida: Dining Delights

April 28, 2016 by Allison TibaldiLeave a Comment

When you hear the words Daytona Beach, I’d bet money NASCAR, Spring Break and sandy stretches of the Atlantic Ocean come to mind. While these are some of its prized attributes, this down-to-earth Florida beach town is making unexpected waves in the culinary arena. It has blossomed into an emerging destination for travelers looking to combine a seaside holiday with delicious dining. Daytona Beach enjoys a throwback quality rich in … [Read more...]

First Day Exploring St. Kitts

April 27, 2016 by Dave2 Comments

I met a Brazilian traveler today - he has not traveled much at all and this was his first time to the Caribbean. He did not speak a word of English so I ended up helping translate through his language barrier using Spanish as our common language. After what I estimated to be a 15 minute walk into town from the B&B where I am staying - turned into a hour, I was more than ready to rent a motorbike. I found a shop run by a man named Matrix who … [Read more...]

Five Ways Travel Helps Your Writing

April 24, 2016 by Tom BentleyLeave a Comment

Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar There’s a plummy quote from Thoreau’s Walden that must open this discussion: “Not till we are lost ... not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves … Henry David was centering on getting lost in nature there, and thus freed of some of the day-to-day material constraints and pressures, but the message applies well to writers, and to the value of getting “lost” in travel. Value sometimes in getting … [Read more...]

Serene Locations for Working in the Travel Sector

April 20, 2016 by Aimee W.Leave a Comment

Many Americans have a dream and it is not to be the President of the United States or anything quite so lofty. No, the dream shared by many Americans is to travel and to make a living out of traveling. But while many have this dream, few actually realize it. This is because they think that relocating, or even just travelling, to a foreign country is too difficult or will be too much of a culture shock. But they may be wrong. Experiencing serene … [Read more...]

A Surprise Weekend in Glorious Budapest

April 20, 2016 by David Leigh2 Comments

Everyone had just left. After celebrating my birthday and some basic tidying up we sat down for a moment. “Why don’t you check your email?” she asked. I took the hint. Taking out my iPhone I opened the email app. And there I saw confirmation I was flying to Budapest on Friday. Now that confused me - she was supposed to be attending a conference in Budapest the following month. She quickly filled me in on the details. She was … [Read more...]

Discovering Wales’ Dramatic Pembrokeshire Coastal Path

April 18, 2016 by Kathryn P.Leave a Comment

With a rich history that spans through stories of druids, medieval castles and wartime conflicts, combined with national emblems that include a dragon, spoon and an odd shaped ball, there is a lot to demystify about Wales. One thing is certain however, the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path that spans across Wales’ south-western coast is one of the most enchanting places on the planet. Touted by National Geographic as the world’s second best coastal … [Read more...]

Red Eyes & Rum: My Arrival to St. Thomas, USVI

April 17, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

From Jet Blue coach to Spirit Air coach I quickly discovered the differences in seating space. The flight I was on from the 'lower 48' had the most legroom of any standard coach seat I've ever sat in. Then it was on to a Spirit Air flight connection in Fort Lauderdale - down to St. Thomas, USVI. I had slimmed down my normal light weight backpack to my camera and laptop and a few thin shorts and shirts. My plan was to wear all the shorts and … [Read more...]
