What you’re missing while looking for the Big Five

May 1, 2013 by Dave1 Comment

When animal spotting on safari, people tend to get obsessed with the Big Five game, as though they matter above all else. I’m not going to stand here and talk down the beauty of the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros, but I will say our admiration for the Big Five can distract us from the other equally wondrous creatures in our midst. So let’s imagine you’re on a luxury African safari with the view to collecting all five of the … [Read more...]

Budapest is known for its thermal waters and there are a number of baths in the city that you can choose from. One of the more accessible baths are the public Szechenyi Baths and Pool. Street Angel

April 30, 2013 by Helena1 Comment

Sighing with tired relief, we plopped our suitcases into the dusty, grey earth – we had arrived! The journey to Florence took far longer than we had anticipated and weariness dragged through our bodies like a ball and chain around an ankle. Our train started to pull off, rattling and screeching away from the station as we soaked in the new surroundings in the cool night air.  I squinted at some small colourful objects in the distance and … [Read more...]

Beautiful St. George Bermuda

April 29, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

I was wandering the harbor front of the quaint town of St. George when I stumbled upon a screaming lady being dragged through the streets by two guys. She had a crazy look in her eyes and her captors where screaming out angry accusations, "gossiper, nag etc". I wondered if I had the guts to intervene on behalf of this poor lady. But looking around I realized I would have to resort to violence to put an end to their crazy actions and seeing … [Read more...]

What Makes Me Get Up and Move

April 28, 2013 by Wendy MareanLeave a Comment

I have been married to a wonderful man for 25 years.  We got married very young so as he said we could: "have our children and still play with them."  We had three children in 4 years - worked hard and played hard.  My husband Wes worked 2 jobs when the kids were little so I could be home with them.  Life was not always a bed of roses but we managed to get 3 children into college, two of which also became soldiers.   When our youngest … [Read more...]

Uncovering Seoul

The best travel experiences are those of discovery. It does not have to be a life-changing discovery as those recounted in a lot of romantic stories nowadays. Simple, small discoveries will do. It was with the longing for a simple discovery that my friends and I planned our winter trip earlier this year. We were all born and raised in a tropical country where the sun shines all year through, so we wanted to find out what a snowy winter would … [Read more...]

Finding Inspiration Among the Redwoods

April 25, 2013 by Bonnie Etherington1 Comment

“The redwoods, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always...from them comes silence and awe. The most irreverent of men, in the presence of redwoods, goes under a spell of wonder and respect.” - John Steinbeck As we drive along the Redwood Highway, I am reminded why so many great writers, the likes of Steinbeck and Muir, found their voices in the forests of Northern California. The story tellers that came before … [Read more...]

The Journey of a Lifetime

April 25, 2013 by Allie GansLeave a Comment

As I hastily climbed the stairs of my neighbor’s house, gasping for air with sweat dripping across my forehead, I had one goal in mind: to win this game of Hide and Go Seek. I had no idea that this simple game would change my life forever. Continuing up the stairs I had the mentality of many young children - my life seemed invincible and the thought of death was distant and abstract. Thinking that I would outsmart everyone, I climbed onto a … [Read more...]
