Nepal – Bargaining

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Bargaining was one of the highlights for me in Katmandu. Every where you walk in this crowded city you are surrounded by swarms of people trying to sell you something. They offer everything from the "best knives made in Nepal", to jewelry, to drugs, to women. Often we would be walking along and some shady character would come up to you and ask in a hushed whisper if you wanted to purchase marijuana, hashish, or coke. When we first arrived it … [Read more...]

Chitwan is a National Park in the southern of Nepal - that contains many wild animals including rhino's and the hard to see Tigers. Jump on the back of an elephant and roam around the tall grasslands of Chitwan looking for a tiger. Chances are you will only see the wild Rhinoceros. Beyond the far away haze you can see the giant peaks of the tallest of the white covered Himalayas. For more information about Chitwan National Park visit the … [Read more...]

Nepal – Pokhara

by Dave · Leave a Comment

We did not actually visit this beautiful area which is west of Katmandu. The reason I include it here is that we were told but a number of people that it is a stunningly beautiful place to visit. Pokhara is actually at an elevation lower then Katmandu and is therefore more tropical. The valley that it sits in is home to forests and many lakes. This city is closer to the mountains than is Katmandu so you have beautiful views of Annapurna I to IV … [Read more...]

Lake Tahoe, CA – Weather

by Dave · Leave a Comment

The sun shines at Lake Tahoe about 67 percent of the year or 252 days. In the winter there are heavy periods of snowfall, but the rest of the year is relatively dry. There is little or no humidity in this alpine environment, especially in the summer months. The weather can change quite dramatically at The Lake even in summer. We were there one year towards the end of June and one night the lake level received 3 inches of snow. Another year in … [Read more...]

Lake Tahoe, CA – History

by Dave · Leave a Comment

John C. Fremont was the first explorer to see Lake Tahoe. He "discovered" it in 1844. For many centuries before Fremont came the Lake Tahoe Basin was a summer home for bands of Washoe Indians. Lake Tahoe had spiritual meaning for these Indians and they held sacred ceremonies along the shore line. Tahoe got its name when explorers tried to interpret the Washoe word, "Da-ow-a-ga" which meant edge of the lake. The name Tahoe became official in … [Read more...]
