amelia-e OAKLAND, Calif. (July 11, 2014) – In just a few hours, Amelia Rose Earhart will set the record as the youngest woman ever to fly around-the-world in a single-engine plane. Upon the 31-year-old aviatrix’s historic landing in Oakland, Calif., she will symbolically complete the unfinished 1937 flight of her namesake, Amelia Mary Earhart. Amelia Rose, with her copilot Shane Jordan, has logged nearly 100 hours of flight time on this journey, stopping at major landmarks and remote islands along the way.

“When I began flying 10 years ago, Amelia Mary Earhart was not only my namesake, but my inspiration and driving force,” said Amelia Rose Earhart. “She was a trailblazer, and empowered women by example. Retracing her steps throughout my incredible journey has been a dream come true, and my hope is that this modern-day globe-trotting trip will inspire future generations of girls to take to the skies.”

After the completion of this flight, Amelia Rose will focus on the Fly With Amelia Foundation, a Colorado-based non-profit organization that works in partnership with Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum to grant flight-training scholarships to young women, ages 16 to 18, and foster aviation and aerospace opportunities for people of all ages through aviation-based educational curriculum. Amelia will award flight-training scholarships, mentor recipients, and develop STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculums for teachers to download and use in the classroom. Additionally, she plans on penning a book detailing the planning and execution of her historic flight.

About The Amelia Project:
In June 2014, Amelia Rose Earhart flew around the world in a single-engine aircraft in an effort to recreate and symbolically complete her namesake’s fateful flight, which ended in mystery when she disappeared over the South Pacific. When Amelia Mary Earhart set out on her adventure in 1937, she was living her passion, leading the charge for the pilots of the future. Amelia said, “My ambition is to have this wonderful gift produce practical results for the future of commercial flying and for the women who may want to fly tomorrow.” Inspired, driven and fueled by flight, Amelia Rose will close her namesake’s flight book in her honor. The goal of this project is to inspire a new generation of aviators and to motivate others to pursue their dreams and passions. For more information please visit Amelia on Facebook and follow her on Instagram and Twitter.

About Amelia Rose Earhart:
Amelia is a passionate aviatrix and philanthropist. In 2013 Amelia started the Fly With Amelia Foundation, a 501c3 that provides flight scholarships to young women, aviation career mentoring, and STEM education programs. Amelia took her first flying lesson on June 2, 2004, and obtained her pilot’s license in a Cessna 172. In 2012, she recreated her namesake’s transcontinental flight from Oakland, California, to Miami, Florida, as a completion of her instrument training hours.
