This classic Southern Georgia celebration buzzes with fall family fun October 21-22

HOGANSVILLE, GEORGIA–OCTOBER 2017–Main Street will be bursting with all things autumn at the Hogansville Hummingbird Festival, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., October 21-22. The “City of Friendly People” invites the entire family to get into the harvest spirit with more than 200 vendors and open storefronts dressed up for the season in Hogansville, Georgia, located on Interstate 85 between Newnan and LaGrange, about 40 minutes south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Buzz through the unique crafts, antiques and activities this two-day, old-fashioned festival offers. Little ones will enjoy the kids play area and the dozens of rides this annual celebration boasts. With so many unique options for the family to enjoy, it’s no wonder why the Hummingbird Festival has earned a spot in the Southeast Tourism Society’s “Top 20 Events.”

Start celebrating early and attend the Miss Hummingbird Pageant–a preliminary competition for Miss Georgia and Miss America pageants–September 23. Get a running start into this award-winning affair with the Tower Trail 5k which takes place before the main festival. Runners, walkers, strollers–even Fido–are welcome to attend this kick-off bash on September 30.

New for 2017, the first-ever Hummingbird Festival Dog Parade will take place Saturday, October 14. The dog parade will proceed up and down Main Street in Hogansville. All dogs who participate will need to be on a leash, be licensed and have proof of vacations. Contests will be held for Best Costume, Best Kisser, Best Behaved and Most Resembling Owner. Donations of services, supplies, or information for the parade are welcome.

Once this historic town’s festival begins, the party for the senses continues. Regional artists, enthusiasts and hobbyists fill the sidewalks with colorful works. Local culinary experts serve up some of the best smells and tastes midwest Georgia has to offer, all while live musicians fill the crisp fall air with sweet sounds of the South. Fly, don’t walk to Hogansville’s 20th annual Hummingbird Festival this fall.
