Taipei 101 – March 2017

March 1, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Taipei 101 was completed in 2004 and was the world's tallest building for five years until that record was obliterated by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. From base to the spire on the top the Taipei 101 stand 1,671 feet (approximately 509 meters). Based on its location in the city, it dominates the skyline - towering above hundreds of 'short' buildings. Visitors can enjoy good views on clear days by visiting the observation floor and deck on the … [Read more...]

Top 9 Lakes Visited Around the World

February 26, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

In my travels around the world I have been fortunate to have visited all of these lakes listed below other then the Blue Cave Lake in Brazil. That is now on my list for my next trip to Brazil! Any of these make your list? Others to add? These are some truly special spots; they are listed alphabetically. Lost to the charm of Seville

February 24, 2017 by Teh Chin Liang2 Comments

Sometimes it is better to travel and be surprised by a destination rather then trying to do research ahead of time. My time in Seville has given me a new perspective about this beautiful part of Spain and my trip here has been without any preconceived expectations. Previously I had only heard of Sevilla through an opera that was based on a story about a barber - other than this fragment of knowledge I knew nothing about this charming little town … [Read more...]

Trier – Rome of the North

February 22, 2017 by Abdul RastagarLeave a Comment

“Ante Romam Treveris stetit annis mille trecentis” (Trier stood 1300 years before Rome) – legend of Trier’s founding.   Trier is the UNESCO World Heritage city you’ve never heard of. While you were busy swooning over Berlin’s modern architecture or Munich’s copious beer gardens, you’ve missed Germany’s most remarkable city, quietly minding its own business along the banks of the Mosel river, the way it always has for two and a half … [Read more...]

Teotihuacan – Where The Gods Were Created

February 20, 2017 by Abdul Rastagar2 Comments

Chances are, you have seen images of Chichen Itza or Palenque, the stunning archeological remains of grand Mayan cities in Mexico. Perhaps you’ve even visited these sites at some point. Considerably less well-known, though, is Teotihuacan, or “the place where the gods were created.” In my mind, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Teotihuacan is western hemisphere’s ultimate pyramid city, vastly more impressive than even its more famous brethren on … [Read more...]

Citadelle LaFerrière – or how to keep the French out of Haiti

February 18, 2017 by Abdul RastagarLeave a Comment

I’ve been in Haiti for a few days now, trying to get a better understanding of life in one of the poorest nations on earth (see my related articles on Port au Prince and Cap Haitien.) By any measure, it has an arduous history. Haiti bears the misfortune of being the island that Columbus decided to claim and colonize first. The native Taino indians were promptly enslaved and sent off into gold mines to enrich the coffers of Queen Isabella of … [Read more...]

A Taste of Hiking in Colorado

February 16, 2017 by Jessica Starkschall2 Comments

I love Colorado. I also love hiking. I’d like to share two of my favorite hikes in Colorado. MAROON BELLS (Aspen, CO)  Aspen is gorgeous, so of course, hiking in Aspen is spectacular.  The views while hiking the Maroon Bells are simply breathtaking.  I took the 6 mile round trip to the pristine Crater Lake.  The hike began with ease.  However, it quickly became an uphill, rocky climb and proved to be quite difficult.  It is not impossible, as … [Read more...]

Exploring Ushuaia, El Fin Del Mundo

February 15, 2017 by Dave4 Comments

After four days in a row on a plane, two of which were overnight flights I have reached El Fin del Mundo, Ushuaia - the world's southernmost city. Flying over Tierra del Fuego, we were treated to spectacularly clear views of the jagged mountains, glaciers and lakes - ultimately reaching the bays near Ushuaia and dropping into the small airport on a nearly cloudless day. My visual research prior to this trip indicated Ushuaia is rarely clear … [Read more...]
