Setting your Sights on Singapore

April 9, 2020 by DaveLeave a Comment

Singapore Island is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. It is also one of the wealthiest South East Asian countries. The city is extremely clean and well manicured and is one of the cleanest large cities we have ever visited. During our recent stay it was not uncommon to find signs indicating $500 to $1000 Singapore dollars for various offenses ($330 to $660 US dollars). For instance it is against the law to jaywalk or eat … [Read more...]

Best Casino Resort in Las Vegas

February 12, 2020 by DaveLeave a Comment

My first trip to Vegas was a road trip with two friends. This trip did not start out very smoothly - after pulling out of my driveway I stopped for gas and one of my friends noticed one of the tires was nearly flat. In a hurry to get on the road in anticipation of 12 hours of driving, we quickly pumped it up and continued on our way. However it lost air pressure fairly quickly and every two hours or so we had to stop to pump up the tire. … [Read more...]

History, Mystery, Art and More in Boonsboro and Beyond

September 11, 2019 by Stephanie Kalina-MetzgerLeave a Comment

Last year, during the holidays, I spent some time in Sharpsburg, Maryland, where I enjoyed a lovely stay at the Jacob Rohrbach Inn. During that time, my travels took me through the small town of Boonsboro, where I noticed a cozy, cute little Inn all lit up for the Christmas season. I was pulled to it like a magnet and vowed to return to explore the area when the weather warmed. That opportunity occurred just this month, when I was able to … [Read more...]

New Zealand of My Thirst

June 16, 2019 by Maxim Basilad1 Comment

Aotearoa, the Maori name for New Zealand stayed in my head days after I inhaled its poetry, its wild forest, its volcanic lake in a caldera, the slow, gentle rhythm of its longest river, Waikato and its multi-cultural people. The North Island floated in my landscape that wanted to hear its voice during fall. There I was introduced into the polyglot voices of the Pasifika experience of Karlo Mila, a poet who captures the essence of … [Read more...]

Cycling Trails in the USA: Where to Go for Cycling?

March 19, 2019 by Tomas KLeave a Comment

Inspired by the Tour of France of 1978, some fella called Freddie Mercury used to chant on how much he wanted to ride his “bicycle, bicycle, bicycle”. The truth is you do not have to be an expert for riding a bicycle, to go from one place to another on two wheels, you do not have to be a scholar; everything is learned on the way. The route strengthens us as people and even sometimes shows us facets that we did not believe we had. In any case, … [Read more...]

Sri Lanka Destination Guide

March 14, 2019 by Preethi Chandrasekhar3 Comments

Sri Lanka has never really been on my bucket list of countries to see. However, I was recently invited to a destination wedding in this country and decided to take the opportunity to discover the island and what it has to offer. Sri Lanka truly has something for everyone, from its laid-back beach towns, spectacular train journeys, to historical ruins, to tea estates to hiking up mountain peaks. This island nation has been voted top country for … [Read more...]

December 2, 2018 by DaveLeave a Comment

Perhaps at a normal airport one would be surprised to see slot machines greeting you as soon as you step off the plane, but this is McCarran Airport, the gateway to Las Vegas. For those who can't wait to get to the 'strip' this is a surprising convenience. But the real action is along Las Vegas Boulevard, several miles of some of the best entertainment, restaurants, and opulence in the entire country. Road Trip Part 5: Pittsburgh to NYC

November 20, 2018 by Steve TaylorLeave a Comment

Some of the best experiences we have in the United States occur when traveling and some of our best experiences when traveling are due to spontaneity. I am always driving around the U.S., either for work or fun, and more often than not an impulsive detour is part of the agenda. One of the more enjoyable, and surprisingly economical, detours started off as a weekend visit to Pittsburgh, PA. It quickly became something more. Pittsburgh, … [Read more...]

Semi-Quarantine in Singapore

November 1, 2018 by Joshua Samuel Brown3 Comments

Semi-Quarantine in Singapore   Or The Best Laid Plans of Men and Microbes By Joshua Samuel Brown, Special for Dave’s Travel Corner   “Mmm…yes. Tsk.” Doctor Eung shone his light into my partner’s inflamed right ear canal. “You say you flew yesterday, is it?” Stephanie nodded grimly, her face swollen in several places. “Better you had not,” said the doctor. The illness had hit a few days earlier, caught from an old friend in … [Read more...]
