Saudi Sojourn: Adventures in the Desert Kingdom

September 1, 2023 by Dave7 Comments

The temperatures have been warm during my stay in Dammam, ranging from 108 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit during the hottest parts of the day. I've been wandering around the city on foot for the past several days. My experience in extreme heat in the past has paid off, alternating between consuming copious quantities of water alternating between fruity and other sweet drinks. To compound things, several days offered up a stiff breeze (and that's … [Read more...]

Living it up in Sin City

Las Vegas

The lights and allure of Las Vegas has long held curiosity for me. It’s a dazzling playground for all. From mind-blowing entertainment, dancing fountains, world-class cuisine and 24-hour casinos – and all on one street! There’s no denying that Las Vegas is a relentless assault on the senses and earns its high-octane reputation as the Entertainment Capital of the World. But is there actually more to Sin City than sensory overload? I was … [Read more...]

Why Vegas remains the Top Travel Destination

March 16, 2023 by Sarah WilliamsonLeave a Comment

One look at the dazzling lights and the hive of activity that is modern day Las Vegas and you’d scarcely believe that just 200 years ago not a single non-native American had settled on the land. A group of traders led by Antonio Armijo were the first to visit the area in 1829 and named it Las Vegas which means “The Meadows" in Spanish. It wasn’t until 1905 that Las Vegas would be officially founded as a railroad town, and its size would grow … [Read more...]

My Visit To Israel

March 12, 2023 by Janet MatriccianiLeave a Comment

The best way to visit Israel is with a fluent Hebrew speaker. That’s why I brought my thirteen-year-old son along, since he goes to a Jewish Day School and spends half each day speaking only Hebrew. Unfortunately, I had over-estimated his capabilities, so taxi rides often consisted of pointing and repeating English words with Israeli accents. If my son hadn’t thought that saying “Iz olright, Iz olright” with an Israel accent and considering that … [Read more...]

Wild Birds by Daniel Baylis

February 1, 2023 by DaveLeave a Comment

Author Daniel Bayless was enjoying a permanent full-time position at an in-flight magazine accompanied by a decent salary. He soon made an offer on a condominium. He was at a point in life when he began to think about settling down. This all changed and he altered his plans when he was blindsided by his cousin's unexpected death at age 26. This book is a detailed personal reflection about Daniel’s experiences on the Israel National Trail, a … [Read more...]

Finding Inspiration in Southern Spain and Morocco

January 9, 2023 by DaveLeave a Comment

I have been fortunate to have visited Spain a number of times, both for wine related business but also to satisfy my wanderlust and ongoing search for ideal weather. I've always timed my visits to avoid the summer months so as not to experience high temperatures and summer crowds. I've found one of my favorite times of year to visit is in late Spring. During my first visit to Spain, I flew into Madrid and quenched my appetite both for food, … [Read more...]

Things You Cannot Miss Out on Your Las Vegas Trip

August 23, 2022 by Gil Pio Medilo VelosoLeave a Comment

It's not strange to see why Sin City, Las Vegas, ranks among the most popular tourist spots in the United States. One of the largest gaming hubs in the world can be found in this oasis city in the desert. The slot machines are usually the first thing passengers see when they step off the plane. And the sights of the "Strip" from the airport are nothing short of extraordinary. While gaming certainly is a significant attraction that brings in … [Read more...]

Irish and New in Vancouver

August 1, 2022 by Mary Kate Forde1 Comment

What it’s really like to live in Beautiful British Columbia’s biggest city. Anyone who knows me will know that I spent over two years in Canada on an IEC Working Holiday visa – mainly because I don’t shut up about my time here. And although I moved around, overall, I spent just under a year in Vancouver so I feel qualified to write about it. Here’s a summary of my experience: Getting There Okay, so let’s take it back to 2019: I’m in final … [Read more...]

Q. Traveling is a universal experience that everyone takes pleasure in, but being a gay traveler comes with its own set of complexity and challenges. How do you define LGBTQ travel and why LGBTQ travel matters in your opinion? I think the definition of LGBTQ travel is constantly evolving, and that’s a great thing. Twenty years ago, being a gay traveler meant I only felt comfortable going to certain spots, like San Francisco or Miami, where … [Read more...]
