It also encourages people to think about exploring some of the world’s scariest places, digging a little deeper into the folklore that exists behind them and the mythical creatures that lurked (and perhaps still lurk) there. Whether you choose to explore the dark recesses of the … [Read more...]

The Howler Monkeys of Nicaragua

September 29, 2013 by Kim HornsbyLeave a Comment

A deafening jungle downpour assaulted the clay roof of my cousin, Rob’s Nicaraguan ranch house. Every day for the last week, I’d been woken by the guttural roaring of howlers somewhere off in the Mombacho jungle, but I had yet to lay eyes on one. The fierce rain was so loud from inside the house that even if they were calling … [Read more...]

Introduction to Northern Napa Valley

March 15, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

The Napa Valley is anchored by Mt. St. Helena in the north and the city of Napa in the south. In between you find the towns of Calistoga, St. Helena, Rutherford, Oakville, and Yountville. These towns are spread out throughout the valley along Highway 29 (which is the main road through Napa Valley on the west side of the valley). Hong Kong in December: A Great In-Between

January 7, 2010 by Anne BennettLeave a Comment

While most tourists prefer to head someplace warm and cozy to escape the cold of winter, I love to do just the opposite and head to Hong Kong. I am strangely drawn to the chill, the rains, and the wind. Besides, I also love the fact that while it is chilly, it does not snow, and no snow means no blizzards which is perfect for me. Hong Kong in winter is a refreshing and wonderful respite after an extended stay in tropical heat where it's 98 … [Read more...]

These falls are spread between the Brazil and Argentina border and extend up the Rio Iguacu several miles. The only similar waterfalls in comparison are Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The massive … [Read more...]
