The Winemaker, by Dr. Richard G. Peterson

September 2, 2015 by Dave1 Comment

This is Dr. Richard Peterson's first book - and you wonder why it took him so long to write a book - until you finish it. Then you will understand perfectly. Throughout his career he has done everything but sit idle. If one grows up with a connection and appreciation of the land, one keeps that throughout his entire life. Dick's upbringing was during the Great American Depression outside of Des Moines, Iowa. From the outside, his family was … [Read more...]

Crawling Around Dublin from Pub to Pub

September 1, 2015 by Dave4 Comments

The only thing I figured out how to do during my short stay in Dublin was crawl from pub to pub. In fact I am writing this now from the standing room only interior of Grogans Castle Pub. Everyone is drinking beer out of Guinness glasses but I am drinking a Swedish Cider. And apparently a cheap one at that. Speaking of cider I've finally discovered a country that can give Sweden a run for the money on the matters of quality cider; that would be … [Read more...]

Baja California’s Hidden Gem: Loreto

August 27, 2015 by Jacki UengLeave a Comment

Loreto, located on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico's Baja California, was one of famous oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau's favorite places in the world. He first visited Loreto in 1980 and appropriately called it "The Aquarium of the World". Yet, it remains a hidden gem to many people even to their 'next door neighbors' in the United States. Loreto is merely a 2.5-hour flight from Los Angeles. Alaska airlines offers nonstop service from LAX, … [Read more...]

August 26, 2015 by Eran Feinstein1 Comment

People travel to distant and exotic climes for a variety of reasons: a box on their bucket list, inner personal experience, cross-cultural understanding, or simple rest and relaxation. From the Traditional Farming to Luxurious Spas – Touring the Mennonite Region of Southern Ontario

August 24, 2015 by Habeeb SalloumLeave a Comment

The Mennonite region in southern Ontario around the Village of St. Jacob’s is a captivating traditional, rustic area yet with the amenities of the modern age. For those who enjoy history and the traditional pre-modern way of life, St. Jacob’s is the place to visit. The Village, a 1 1/2 hours drive from Toronto, represents the living remnants of a European Christian sect that was persecuted in Europe then found a home in Canada with the freedom … [Read more...]

An Introduction to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan: Culture, Food & Attractions

August 22, 2015 by Dave2 Comments

When one thinks of Canadian cities, iconic urban destinations quickly come to mind such as Toronto, Montreal, Quebec and Vancouver. Saskatoon is not located near any of these major urban centers and is certainly a much smaller city in comparison - both of these aspects are refreshing and are part of the appeal of visiting. So where is Saskatoon anyways? It is located in the southern part of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan about 2.5 hours … [Read more...]

Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival: A Celebration of Life and Culture

August 20, 2015 by Jeana Shandraw27 Comments

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” – Oprah Winfrey These words capture the incredible nature of our existence. There is a lot to be said about the uniqueness of our humanity and the scope through which we view life. The fact that we hold “celebrations” to call attention to the different joys in our lives is one of the many reasons we are so special. Through our own creativity we have invented … [Read more...]

A Dingle Story

August 18, 2015 by Cecile RiphagenLeave a Comment

Travel is about moments suspended in time. When travelling I try to consider a place my temporary home. Running around, visiting one sight after the other in order to tick off the list of sights you really have to see and cannot miss, blurs one’s mind into one undistinguished pile of memories of churches, castles, landscapes, cafés, restaurants and other things you have visited but actually can’t remember. You look back at all those pictures you … [Read more...]
