February 5, 2006 by Paul HaydenLeave a Comment

As a result of hosting the 2000 Summer Olympics, Sydney has become known worldwide as one of the most beautiful and friendly cities in the world with it's Sydney Opera House on the harbor, it's beautiful coastline, and the many great places to stay. Perhaps you've finally set aside time for your dream vacation in the oldest city in Australia, or maybe you have a marketing business trip scheduled for your newly formed company, and your first stop … [Read more...]

dili-beach-east-timor

A diamond in the rough has been a term used recently to describe scuba diving in East Timor; the newest nation in the world. Located in the Southeast end of the Indonesian Archipelago, East Timor, commonly referred to as ET, has some spectacular diving to offer those adventurous souls in search of something new and different. In 1999 the world became much more aware of East Timor as civil unrest broke out after a referendum vote for … [Read more...]

Huaraz, Peru – More Info

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Banks Several local and national banks are located in Huaraz as well as 24/7 ATM's - these are all located close to the Plaza del Armas and downtown area. We've used a variety of ATM cards during our trips to Huaraz and never had any problems with the ATM's in town. Money Many of the trekking agencies only accept cash. All convenience stores only accept cash. Pharmacies and some restaurants accept major credit cards. As in other parts of … [Read more...]

New Zealand, South Island – Lake Wanaka

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Lake Wanaka (www.lakewanaka.co.nz) is the gateway to Mt. Aspiring National Park - but one should also spend some time in town exploring the diversity of attractions and experiences available. Besides its scenic location near Lake Wanaka it is a bustling tourist town with plenty of shopping and small little cafes and restaurants. As with most of the popular tourist towns in New Zealand, lodging will be extremely tight if you do not have prior … [Read more...]

Saigon, Vietnam – Restaurants

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Overall, compared to Thai food Vietnamese food is much less spicy and more bland. You can choose from a variety of soups (called Pho's), seafood dishes, vegetable dishes, rolls, and rice dishes. You can have an excellent dinner for around $10 - you can however, eat much cheaper than this if you like. There are also some excellent French restaurants in Saigon as well as coffee shops. The following are a few restaurants that Dave frequented … [Read more...]

Cuzco, Peru – Machu Picchu

by Dave · 11 Comments

Machu Picchu is visually one of the planet's most unique and inspirational sites. Combine its visual beauty with the intriguing story of a "lost city" high in the Andes being "discovered" centuries after it was abandoned has made this site obtain almost a mythical status. One can attempt to experience Machu Picchu through videos, photographs and glowing travel writing, but there is absolutely no substitute to visiting the site in person. … [Read more...]

Robert is Here, Homestead FL – April 2003

April 1, 2003 by DaveLeave a Comment

Robert is Here in Homestead Florida is a rare and tropical fruit stand that has been in business for over 60 years. It was founded by Robert at age 6. We have been here several times - during our most recent visit Robert was still behind the cash register helping customers. We noted that our own purchases were hand written on a paper bag in pencil and then added up. No calculator or cash register here. We are tropical fruit fanatics and had … [Read more...]

Safari West, CA – The Safari

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Soon after pulling into the entrance of Safari West we hopped into a waiting 1952 Dodge Power Wagon Jeep and we were greeted by a young fellow in the driver's seat named Billy. Billy was born and raised in South Africa. His father was a bush pilot and Billy grew up around wild animals all of his life. He would be our driver and guide for the 2.5-hour tour. His background and insights into the animals and their behaviors was invaluable. The … [Read more...]
