The Wizard of Christchurch

April 18, 2011 by John Edwards1 Comment

EVERYONE knows J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed entirely on location downunder by Kiwi director Peter Jackson. But did you know that a real sorcerer, a magi of magic realism straight out of the Oscar-winning series, only rather recently left New Zealand after the nasty Christchurch Earthquake of 2011. Born Ian Brackenbury Channell in London (4 December 1932), "The Wizard of Christchurch" is an inspired soap-box … [Read more...]

Walking the Walk in NYC

April 14, 2011 by Catherine SweeneyLeave a Comment

On a recent visit to New York City, I followed in the footsteps of immigrants, celebrities, and George Washington by taking a fun, educational and free walking tour provided by NYC by Foot. Their "Historic District" tour began at Spring Street and 6th Avenue, conveniently across from the subway station. The two hour walk covered about 1.2 miles of Soho, Chinatown and Little Italy - an area that includes part of the historic Five Points District. … [Read more...]

April 12, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

Since it is never too early to find out about big music events and festival season is about to kick off, let's turn our attention to Lisbon, Portugal because from July 14th until the 16th it will host the 17th edition of the Super Bock Super Rock, one of the biggest rock festivals in Portugal. I have to be a bit more precise, as the actual place of the festival is Meco, Sesimbra which is about 40km away from Lisbon which make this an … [Read more...]

The Cyprus Tug o War

April 6, 2011 by Roni WeissLeave a Comment

The first thing that drew me to Cyprus is that they are another of those countries that "doesn't exist". The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is only recognized by Turkey itself. It's also known as "North(ern) Cyprus". According to the European Union (and much of the world), the whole island is one country. The reality of this is pretty clearly in dispute, as the TRNC runs its own border control at its (internationally unrecognized) … [Read more...]

Red Square & the Kremlin – Moscow – April 2011

April 1, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

The Red Square and the Kremlin are super important attractions and we went back to this part of Moscow 3 days in a row. You need at least 2 days to hit the main museums and attractions in this area and or just sit down and people watch. The Kremlin is unbelievable - with its golden spired domes, many cathedrals and amazing murals inside the curved walls of the churches. Red Square is one of the most impressive squares in the world anchored by … [Read more...]

Double Decker Duffle

March 1, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

Double Decker Duffle (Reviewed: Mar 2011) The "beauty" of this product other than its obvious fashionable design is its versatility. This bag can be both a carry on or a roll-aboard (in line wheels with a telescopic handle) and is the latest in the line of travel bags and accessories designed by long time inventor Joy Mangano. This duffle bag is stylish (even the luggage cuff is elegantly designed), yet super practical and durable. It is made … [Read more...]
