The Power of Experiential Travel, Speech in Seattle

September 1, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

When my friend invited me to make a speech to some of his investment clients at a location in downtown Seattle about some of my travel adventures I jumped at the opportunity. With the challenge of creating a speech for his "mixer" I came up with one titled, "The Power of Experiential Travel" - in summary highlighting a number of my interesting adventures from around the world and finishing with some lessons learned from all these … [Read more...]

2013 Travel Writing Contest Winners & Honorable Mentions

August 1, 2013 by Dave4 Comments

Of all the past travel writing contests, this was the most difficult year to narrow down the entries to the top three winners. We initially selected 11 from over 100 entries. One entry stood out from the others and was the unanimous choice for our top spot. After discussion among the three judges - the three top entries are: Bring Adventure Back to Europe, by Richard Bangs       Without An Address, You Can’t Go Home, … [Read more...]

Whilst most trips abroad pass without any problems when a problem arises and you are in a foreign country it can be very stressful and quite frightening. There are a few things that you can do to minimise the odds of finding yourself in such a predicament though – and here are a few of them. Five Reasons to Visit Olu Deniz

July 19, 2013 by Jennifer TulipLeave a Comment

Mention holidays to Turkey to a lot of people and crowded bazaars and bustling streets spring to mind – not exactly the serene tranquillity which features highly on most people’s holiday wish lists. But The Water is as Blue as the Destination Guides Describe The Blue Lagoon, as it is affectionately known, couldn’t be more apt for the area. It’s Greener Than People Think Undulating hills of trees and greenery are great for … [Read more...]

Internet Access in Hotels

July 15, 2013 by Dave3 Comments

When I first came to Europe - Internet cafe's were plentiful - seemingly several per block in the more touristy cities. Over the past 6-8 years I've been to Europe many times and have seen the Internet cafe's disappear. Even this afternoon while traveling through the Cote d'Azur in southern France I saw several old Internet cafe's with the name of the business fading above the currently empty location. Friends who don't travel are often … [Read more...]

Basking in the Warmth of Santa Catalina Island

June 26, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Catalina provides the calm, quiet and the rural contrast to the urban 24/7 hum of the city of Los Angeles. The Ying and Yang of urban versus rural environments, if you will. Catalina is world's away yet still within the confines of Los Angeles County. In reality the island is only approximately 50 miles away from the extreme contrast of pulsating clubs and the craziness of late night parties on Sunset or Hollywood Blvds. We conveniently stayed … [Read more...]

I recently attended a Oaxaca promotion dinner at Geulaguetza restaurant - an authentic restaurant serving Oaxacan cuisine surprisingly located in the heart of Koreatown Los Angeles. One of our contributors and photographers Michelle Yam recently went on a trip to Huataluco along the coast in the state of Oaxaca and invited me to this dinner. The presentation was to promote tourism to the region, inspire and excite us about the wonders of … [Read more...]

Top 5 Canadian Cities Worth Exploring

June 17, 2013 by Lloyd J.1 Comment

Canada, sitting just north of the United States of America, consists of ten different provinces and three territories. It stretches to the Atlantic Ocean in the east, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the Pacific Ocean on the west side, and spans almost ten million square kilometres, making it the second largest country by total area. It’s a pretty fantastic place – although it was explored and settled by British and French forces from the … [Read more...]
