A Busy Day in LA

October 7, 2013 by Dave2 Comments

Got up early to go shopping at the relatively new Farmer's Market in front of the Autry Center - it is one of the smaller Farmer's markets in town but this time of year there is always good fresh fruit - especially grapes. Oh and the Homeboy Bakery is always there with their fresh bread (reformed gang members). Heading across the street - I spent 90 minutes at the LA Zoo - arriving right as they opened and raced to the back of the park to beat … [Read more...]

The Body Worlds Exhibition at Times Square Gets Under Your Skin and How!

October 6, 2013 by Alex Crystal3 Comments

I’m not a serial killer, I swear! No, that is not something a serial killer would say. I’m innocent, I swear! Okay, maybe that’s something a serial killer would say. But the point that I’m trying to make here is that (other than the fact that I’m not a serial killer) is that I’ve always had a morbid fascination with the insides of the human body. Err...okay, that sounded creepy. (I’m really not helping my case here, am I?!) Let me … [Read more...]

Has Travel Come to This?

October 2, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

During a recent trip to South America my friends and I were joking about walking around sightseeing while taking distracted glances upwards from our phones. Some of us were addicted to our phones - jumping online when any free Wifi opportunity became available. I polled a family member currently on vacation in Croatia - who enjoys using his phone while traveling. I had a good laugh when we read this. "Travel is all about staying in touch … [Read more...]

Culebra Island, Puerto Rico – October 2013

October 1, 2013 by Dave2 Comments

Culebra Island is 18 miles off shore from mainland Puerto Rico and only 12 miles from St. Thomas and the US Virgin Islands. Flamenco Beach has been voted one of the top beaches in the Caribbean by several publications. Usually its pure white sand beaches are relatively isolated but this time in the middle of Semana Santa its sand was covered with hip young college students partying. Its about an hour catamaran ride here from Marina Puerto Del … [Read more...]

The Howler Monkeys of Nicaragua

September 29, 2013 by Kim HornsbyLeave a Comment

A deafening jungle downpour assaulted the clay roof of my cousin, Rob’s Nicaraguan ranch house. Lying snug in bed, I foresaw the cancellation of our excursion at first light to track the elusive Mantled Howler Monkeys. Every day for the last week, I’d been woken by the guttural roaring of howlers somewhere off in the Mombacho jungle, but I had yet to lay eyes on one. The fierce rain was so loud from inside the house that even if they were calling … [Read more...]
