Landmark Theme Building Observation Deck at Los Angeles International Airport to Re-Open This Saturday July 10

lax-observation-deck LOS ANGELES, July 9, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Observation Deck atop the iconic Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will once again delight travelers and families with a 360-degree view of the airport as it re-opens to the public on weekends only with limited hours — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays beginning this Saturday, July 10, 2010. There is no time limit for how long visitors may stay on the deck. Together with the space-age, retro-themed Encounter Restaurant housed inside the building, the re-opening fully restores an LAX experience that had been a major draw to travelers from around the world.

The Theme Building recently finished a three-year, $12.3-million renovation, which made the structure safer and more accessible.

The Observation Deck was closed due to security reasons following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the East Coast. New security measures will be in place, including inspection of personal belongings before visitors enter the nonstop elevator for a quick ride from the lobby to the Observation Deck. Prior to its closing, the Observation Deck welcomed nearly 3,000 people monthly.
