Starline Tours reveals Hollywood’s nightmares on celebrity streets during Halloween month – Crime Scenes and movie locations are featured throughout October on Movie Stars’ Homes Tour

HOLLYWOOD, CA-September 13, 2010-Halloween wasn’t invented on the big screen but there’s no better place than Hollywood get into the spirit of the season.

From vampire bites on wax celebrities to an entire hotel-turned haunted mansion, Hollywood goes to the dark side in October and the place to start is Starline Tours.

The company’s popular Movie Stars’ Homes Tour will highlight such bewitching and spine-chilling sites- both real and in the movies – Halloween lovers will salivate in ghoulish anticipation.

Starline Tours has been giving curious tourists the perfect view of celebrity homes since 1935 on a two-hour tour that includes many visitor favorites. In October the tour will also feature many ghoulish highlights, including Bela Lugosi’s (Count Dracula) home, the original “Halloween” house from the movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis, the elm-lined street featured in the movie “Nightmare on Elm Street”, and the real “Nightmare on Elm” where the Menendez brothers murdered their parents.

The tour also visits the “Witch’s House”, which looks as if it were stolen from a Grimm’s fairy tale. Originally built in 1921 for a movie set, and later relocated to Beverly Hills, the storybook house has been featured movies like “Clueless”, but is now a private residence and trick-or-treat favorite in Beverly Hills.

Spirits might also be found lingering in Benedict Canyon (the site of the Manson murders), at Chateau Marmont (where John Belushi departed this world), and at the Viper Room (where River Phoenix passed on). The most popular Hollywood spot for ghosts is the famous Roosevelt Hotel, where the many ghostly sightings include those of movie stars Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift (The Roosevelt Hotel becomes a haunted mansion on October 31.) But it is Michael Jackson’s rental home where he lived and died that is the most popular home on the tour.

Estates of celebrities past and present are included, such as Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, Elvis Presley, Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra. If visitors don’t spot their favorite star, they’ll always find them at Madame Tussaud’s on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, celebrating Halloween with a ‘vampire bite’ contest in October.

The Movie Stars’ Homes Tours depart daily from Grauman’s Chinese Theatre every half hour from 9:30 am to sundown. Tickets are $44 for adults, $32 for youth 3-11 and available online at www.starlinetours.com , at the Starline Tours kiosk at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood and at the Starline Tours Kiosk on Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica. For information (U.S.) call 1-800-959-3131, (International) 011-323-463-3333.

Starline Tours is also the best way to hunt down more Halloween around Los Angeles, with the City Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off tour. Four interconnecting routes cover nearly 50 stops from downtown Los Angeles to the Santa Monica beach. On a grand scale, there’s the 17-day scare at Universal Studios Hollywood during Halloween Horror Nights (Stop #22/Blue route), the Day of the Dead celebration at Olvera Street, the oldest street in Los Angeles (Stop #31/Purple route), and the hallowed grounds and final resting places of many legends: Westwood Village Memorial Cemetery-Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Walter Matthau (Stop #63/Yellow) and Forever Hollywood Cemetery-Johnny Ramone, Rudolph Valentino and Douglas Fairbanks (Stop #15/Red route). Tickets for 24 and 48 hours are available from the driver at any stop.

Starline Tours is the oldest and largest sightseeing tour company in Los Angeles, celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The company offers a full range of sightseeing tours of Los Angeles including a multi-lingual City Tour, a city-wide Hop-on Hop-off Double-Decker tour, Malibu Stars’ Homes Tour, and tours to Theme Parks, Movie Studios, San Diego and Tijuana with pick-up from more than 250 hotels in the Los Angeles area.
