Cultural Council asks Residents and Visitors to Share Art around Florida’s Historic Coast through Social Media

St. Augustine, Fla – To promote culture around every corner in St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and the Beaches as a destination for cultural tourists, the St. Johns Cultural Council announces the launch of #ShareArtHCC, an Instagram-based campaign to show residents and visitors that there is more to the St. Augustine area than just sunny skies and history.

The #ShareArtHCC campaign comprises two phases: Phase One, launching on March 4, asks visitors and residents to submit photos of what art and culture means to them in St. Johns County via the Instagram hashtag #ShareArtHCC and by tagging @HistoricCoastCulture. What counts as art and culture? From architecture to music, dance and cultural festivals…the possibilities in St. Johns County are endless. Prizes for the photo contest include a St. Augustine vacation package including a three day, two night stay at The Collector Luxury Inn and tickets and passes to arts and culture experiences in the county.

During Phase Two, images gathered from the #ShareArtHCC hashtag will be curated for use in a national advertising campaign in Summer and Fall 2019. The Cultural Council expects the campaign will help highlight the county’s arts, culture and heritage offerings and inspire residents to participate in the area’s vibrant community arts scene.

“More and more, visitors are turning to social media platforms for travel inspiration,” said St. Johns Cultural Council Director Andrew Witt. “Instagram provides St. Johns County a unique platform to show off the beauty of our community, and with this campaign, we’ll be able to show a different side of our county, inspiring new travelers and return visitors.”

“As a vibrant county, beautiful and meaningful art experiences happen every day.” said Kathe O’Donnelly, Assistant Director of the Cultural Council. “By tapping into the creativity of residents, this campaign will help us find and share these experiences with a broader audience locally, nationally and around the world.”

Details of the campaign are:

· The Cultural Council and partners will ask residents and travelers to submit images of what they view as art and culture in St. Johns County by tagging @HistoricCoastCulture on Instagram and using the hashtag #ShareArtHCC.

· Participants who submit a photo will also be entered into a #ShareArtHCC contest.

· Contest entries will be accepted from March 4 to May 31. Prizes include a St. Augustine vacation package including a three day, two night stay at The Collector Luxury Inn and tickets and passes to arts and culture experiences in the county. Entries will also have the opportunity for their photography to be featured in a national cultural tourism advertising campaign.

· After May 31, submissions will be reviewed by the Cultural Council and a panel of local experts, who will select winning images based on relevancy of theme, quality of content and originality. Selected images will be used in national cultural tourism campaign in the summer and fall of 2019.
