Exploring Local Agritourism in Southern Sweden

July 6, 2013 by Dave5 Comments

The region of Skåne is Sweden's "breadbasket", a landscape filled with agriculture, both rolling hills and flatlands and is surrounded by the Baltic Sea on three sides. Entry to this region is easy - Malmö, Sweden's third largest city behind Stockholm and Gothenburg is merely 20-30 minutes by train or car from Copenhagen's International Airport. Driving is straight forward in Sweden - roads are well signed and the rural country roads are … [Read more...]

Saul Bolanos: A Modern Day Alchemist

July 6, 2013 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

John M. Edwards finds out that Costa Rican Artist Saul Bolaños’s Medium Is Hot Costa Rica, a coffee democracy in a sea of banana republics, is known more for its number-one export than its art. So perhaps it is only natural that Costa Rican photo-artist Saul Bolaños decided to fuse the two and extract art from the ubiquitous bean. His CAFEGRAFIA®, sepia-color photo images made real by coffee, explore the offbeat flight paths of Central … [Read more...]

Lara Beach – Turtle Sanctuary

July 5, 2013 by James BrewsterLeave a Comment

The town of Paphos, located on the south coast of Cyprus, has many attractions. It is a recognised UNESCO site for its many historical and archaeological sites, including Paphos Castle, a medieval fort built to defend the harbour; the ruined castle of Saranta Kolenes; the Tombs of the Kings, a network of underground vaults dating from the 4th century BC; the remains of city walls; and Roman buildings. A little inland you can find pine forested … [Read more...]

Jamaica’s Coolest Joint

July 3, 2013 by Geren LockhartLeave a Comment

JAMAICA – Last Christmas I realized I needed a little sun. I regretted missing two invitations to go to Jamaica — here was my chance! I enlisted one of my best friends to share in the adventure. We chose Negril, the beach resort for locals on the island (it's their Malibu or Montauk). Negril used to be a hippie enclave and has slowly evolved into a boho jet-set destination with great Chris Blackwell hotels and restaurants — my music video … [Read more...]

Brac Island, Croatia – July 2013

July 1, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Brac (pronounced 'brach') Croatia is an easily accessible island (about 50 minute ferry ride from the city of Split on the mainland). A visit here is well worth a day trip...at minimum. For the adventurous, renting motorbikes is a must. The island has some beautiful beaches as well as more intimate private bays. Picturesque villages dot the shoreline around the island and small cut off roads often lead down to these villages or connect them below … [Read more...]

Sacred Guides

June 26, 2013 by Marianne RuaneLeave a Comment

The eighty degree weather we’d had at breakfast in a California border town transitioned sharply into the fifties by lunchtime at the Grand Canyon. I exchanged my flip flops for socks and hiking shoes, threw a jean jacket over my summer dress, and donned a beanie, the only warmer things I had easy access to. My dress whipped around my legs in the chilly wind. The weather was unexpectedly far from ideal for sightseeing, but we couldn’t drive past … [Read more...]

Basking in the Warmth of Santa Catalina Island

June 26, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Catalina provides the calm, quiet and the rural contrast to the urban 24/7 hum of the city of Los Angeles. The Ying and Yang of urban versus rural environments, if you will. Catalina is world's away yet still within the confines of Los Angeles County. In reality the island is only approximately 50 miles away from the extreme contrast of pulsating clubs and the craziness of late night parties on Sunset or Hollywood Blvds. We conveniently stayed … [Read more...]

The Enemy

June 23, 2013 by Linda Ballou2 Comments

My yearning for unhurried solitude brought me to a strip of sand beneath a canopy of wind blown tress at Emma Woods Beach Park in Ventura, Ca. While lying belly down on the warm sand listening to the rhythm of the rolling waves, I spied a homeless man curled up on a nearby dune. I hoped that he could actually sleep there, nestled in the ice plant. He lifted his head from his knapsack and looked at me with blood- rimmed eyes. Not wanting to … [Read more...]

Palau, Micronesia Has A Host Of Options For Adventure Seekers

June 20, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

(Palau, Micronesia --- June 20, 2013) --- Known for its world-class scuba diving conditions, Palau is host to a whole range of options for adventure seekers. In addition to being one of Jacques Cousteau’s favorite dive destinations, this Micronesian paradise is also one of Survivor TV’s Jeff Probst’s favorite places on earth. It’s no wonder…the remote location is free of commerciality and truly a genuine eco-environment, which is not at all … [Read more...]

Car + Vacation, Volvo Factory Tour, Gothenburg Sweden

June 20, 2013 by Dave1 Comment

Recently I was in Sweden to help promote Volvo's Car + Vacation program for overseas car buyers - sponsored by Volvo, Visit Sweden, West Sweden Tourism and Skåne Tourism. This was an appropriate trip for me; at last count, my immediate family has owned six volvos - since my grandfather purchased my mom's first car in 1969. That vehicle was a new 2-door 1968 white Volvo that they spent a grand total of $2,300 at the time. My aunt followed the path … [Read more...]
