Put Cornwall in the UK on your Bucket List

September 15, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

I have traveled in the UK a number of times - usually short stop overs on my way to other parts of Europe - most often using London as my base for day trips to the surrounding regions. During my last visit, despite being miserably sick - I was able to explore Cardiff and even do some rock climbing in Brecon Beacons and explore an old coal mine. But for all the times I've been to London I have not yet gotten down to Cornall (about a 6 hour … [Read more...]

My Time Exploring the Baltics

September 10, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

While exploring Eastern Europe with a friend a few years back, I decided to visit Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Each country is relatively small and the highlights seen in a few days. And the nice part is this part of Europe is really not that far from the UK. I stopped over at Heathrow Airport on my way to Helsinki - I remember the flight time was only a few hours. After spending a few days in Helsinki - including a memorable stay in a … [Read more...]

Looking at Visiting Toronto for the First Time

September 5, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Remarkably I have not yet visited one of the largest cities in North America, Toronto and the largest city in Canada. One of our earliest contributors to this site Habeeb Salloum lives in Toronto and has invited me in the past to visit this diverse city. In looking at airfare for great deals on flights to Toronto I began researching the prices from Los Angeles (LAX) to to Toronto (YTO). Remarkably flights are priced under $300. And round trip … [Read more...]

Welcome to the Historic Cape Coast Castle

August 5, 2017 by Jonathan AddoLeave a Comment

Cape Coast Castle courtyard

“Hello Nana... all is set for you to come to Cape Coast for your much-awaited experience and exploration of the Cabo Corso Castle” – in a sniggering tone. Those were the exact words of my cousin, Fiifi, who called me all the way from Cape Coast to tell me his family was ready to host me as I take my much-awaited tour of the historic and famous Cape Coast Castle, one of the many old European Castles located in Cape Coast – in the Central region … [Read more...]

A bike ride adventure across Great Britain

August 3, 2017 by Alistair McGuinness1 Comment

Twenty years after cycling the length of Great Britain with two friends, I received an offer to do it all over again. My initial thought was to say no, because I had since moved from England to Western Australia and it was a long way to travel for a bike ride. Also, our first attempt had been a foolhardy escapade, with little training or planning, resulting in a harsh lesson into the trials and tribulations of cycling on Britain’s main roads in … [Read more...]

Crush, A Wine Thriller – by Jennifer M. Fraser

August 1, 2017 by Dave1 Comment

There is plenty of keep the one absorbed from start to finish in Jennifer M. Fraser's exciting book, Crush, A Wine Thriller. The story features Paige Munroe, normally an investigative journalist often covering war stories. In this book her investigative role is initially reduced to ease her back into the 'world' after recovering from a war time injury. Assigned to cover and promote select wineries in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, … [Read more...]

Lessons From A Near Death in Namibia

July 14, 2017 by Kristen Gill3 Comments

My guide Hans and I on our long-haul trip through Namibia. Kristen Gill Photography - All Rights Reserved.

Clutching my throat, I asked my guide Hans, “Do you know what plant this is?” “That’s not a good plant. It’s poisonous, and you shouldn’t touch it. You need to wash your hands thoroughly.” “But, I put it in my mouth.” Blank stare, followed by Hans’s eyes growing wider. “I took a bite of it and now my mouth is burning. Really burning. It’s like I’m gargling with carbolic acid,” I managed to explain in a hoarse voice, as my throat … [Read more...]

Wales: A Tale of Two Hotels

June 26, 2017 by Allison TibaldiLeave a Comment

If Wales isn’t already marked on your map for its luxurious lodging options, two North Wales hotels aim to persuade you otherwise. Country house hotels are riding a wave of popularity in the United Kingdom and Wales is on the crest. With televisions shows like Downton Abbey and The Crown basking in the global pop-culture limelight, Brits and foreigners alike are flocking to elegant, small hotels to feel pampered in a discrete environment. If … [Read more...]
