5 Things to Do in Lake Arrowhead

July 1, 2019 by Abdul Rastagar2 Comments

“Every season is beautiful but autumn is my favorite. Everyone is out and about but more bundled up. It’s a fun time,” says Summer Barron, Spa Director at Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa. Born and raised in Lake Arrowhead, California, Summer is the perfect person to inform me about the area, the resort and what makes it such a popular choice by those in the know. Lake Arrowhead is a private lake and community nestled at 5200 ft. (1500 m) in the … [Read more...]

Top 11 Things to Do in Montreal’s Golden Square Mile

June 6, 2019 by Steve MirskyLeave a Comment

The name of Montreal's Golden Square Mile or Le Mille Carré, a square mile of signature historic blocks at the heart of downtown at the foot of Mount Royal, traces its origins back to 1950s real estate developers promoting the area's prosperity. Today, "Golden" more aptly describes the stellar array of attractions available within such a small radius. In 1983, only 30% of the district's historic buildings survived the wrecking ball due to … [Read more...]

The End of the Road: “I’ve finally made it around the world.”

December 8, 2018 by Pete Martin2 Comments

I’m tired this morning. It feels like the end of a very long journey. I sleep in, listening to the sounds of Parisian life outside my hotel. While it will be the end of this journey around the world with the last leg from Paris back to Frankfurt tomorrow, perhaps it’s the start of something else. I want to believe that my days of living and working with people who do not share my values are over (or at least I will be conscious of the … [Read more...]

Introduction to Havana

November 22, 2018 by Dave14 Comments

I learned that it takes a few days to warm to Cuba - but when you do, its alluring embrace grabs you with all it has and doesn't let go. The colorfully dressed person in front of me boarded the plane without any shoes and left the plane without any shoes. Never seen that before. Following a very quick wait in customs, I then caught a taxi to Havana for 30 CUC, the Cuban currency (the airport is about 30-45 minutes from the center of the city). … [Read more...]

The Greatest Spot in Los Angeles

October 17, 2018 by Abdul Rastagar1 Comment

Los Angeles is like few cities in the world. The mere name instantly conjures up more world-famous sights than I can name - the Hollywood sign, the Walk of Fame, the Getty Center and Museum, the California Science Center, Malibu, Pacific Coast Highway, Sunset Boulevard, Santa Monica and its pier, the boardwalk at Venice Beach, Universal Studios, Rodeo Drive, the Griffith Observatory, the Disney Concert Hall, Huntington Library and Gardens, and on … [Read more...]

Three California Roads Less Traveled

August 22, 2018 by Abdul Rastagar2 Comments

It's easy to argue that California is the land freeways and automobiles. And with its massive scale and incredible geographic diversity, there are plenty of scenic routes to explore. We've all heard of the world-famous drives, like the section of the Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur or Mulholland Drive through the Hollywood Hills. While I have plenty of favorites, I'd like to share three lesser-known routes. There are, of course, many more … [Read more...]

April 21, 2018 by Steve Mirsky2 Comments

When exploring the vast open spaces of the Western United States, millions of travelers visit iconic National Parks like the Grand Canyon or Yosemite. For the uninitiated, Death Valley National Park may appear to simply be a wasteland with record breaking temperatures famous for frying eggs on blacktop. But dig deeper and you have one of the country’s largest National Parks with extremely comfortable daytime winter and early spring temperatures … [Read more...]

Songkhran, Thai New Years

April 20, 2018 by Dave14 Comments

Historically April is the hottest month of the year in Thailand. Presumably the warmest days are mid month - conveniently this is when Songkran is held every year. For several days one of the world's biggest waterfights takes place throughout the country. Our Songkran began slowly - joining a colorful procession of people parading through a temple grounds. Hawaiian style colorful shirts are the norm during the days of Songkran - the brighter the … [Read more...]
