Set me Free, Koh Tao Island, Thailand

April 1, 2023 by Dave3 Comments

This is the shortest distance from the mainland although ferries also run from Surathani, further to the south. All tickets can be purchased online. This island offers an ideal balance between tourist infrastructure and natural beauty. Normally Koh Tao would be crowded with both Thai tourists as well those visiting primarily from … [Read more...]

Isn’t it Time you Treated Yourself to one of These? A Caribbean Cruise with Celebrity Cruises

February 1, 2022 by Dave2 Comments

A gentle breeze blows, not even strong enough to knock over a nearby empty can of ginger beer. I lie alone floating face up in a hot tub on the upper deck in the middle of the Caribbean ocean cruising on a 10-night tour of the Eastern Caribbean on Celebrity Cruises Millennium watching wispy clouds float by; I realize that I have not reached a blissful state of relaxation like this in nearly the past two years. Being back on the water, feels very … [Read more...]

July 27, 2021 by DaveLeave a Comment

St. Augustine is rich in history, and in the late 1800s, rich was the operative word. This is one way to travel: My trip to Koh Jum, Thailand!

March 1, 2021 by Dave6 Comments

I was having sangria drinks at Bar 1881, tucked away in one of the corners of the Artbox night market in Bangkok with Ric, founder of Global Gaz and Ian, founder of Travel Massive and another traveler who I had corresponded with multiple times but did not know his name until we actually met - when I decided to leave for a minute and find some food. I stopped to order some Larb Gai at one of the stalls when a lady approached me and instructed me … [Read more...]

Living the Independent Lifestyle, Freelance Writing

June 12, 2020 by DaveLeave a Comment

When I started my travel site in 1996, there were very few independent online travel focused websites. Like many others (especially those beginning blogs), my site began as a personal journal - a place to compile notes from various trips with tips and tricks to help other travels avoid mistakes that I made on my own travels. Over the years I've retained this focus - but the site has also morphed into more of a travel community with writers … [Read more...]
