Thailand: One man’s virgin tour

May 11, 2011 by Paul Kandarian4 Comments

Dried fish at a Bangkok street market I wake up at 5:30 a.m. on the 57th floor of the Lebua at State Tower, an upscale hotel in the thick of Bangkok, the Praya River snaking by below. I stand and listen, hearing a throaty growl seeming to gather steam in the distance and figure it has to be an airplane leaving the city from Suvarnabhumi Airport. But how can that be? For one thing, the airport is 19 miles away. For another, the sound doesn't … [Read more...]

Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

April 22, 2011 by Dave13 Comments

It was nice to tour Old San Juan. The old part of this city is truly made for walking. At only 1x2 miles you can easily cover most of the old town in 1/2 a day. This is the location to the oldest "western" history in the New World. Buildings date back to the 1520's. The Cristobal Fort is a highlight with fantastic views overlooking the ocean especially when those big tropical billowing white clouds build up in the distance. Construction on this … [Read more...]

5 things you must do in Rio De Janeiro

April 16, 2011 by Ivona SiniarskaLeave a Comment

As Easter weekend is just around the corner - I thought I would share with you how I spent my Easter in Rio. While Brazil is a country that I know is stunning and has many cities to visit, as well as one of the world's largest waterfalls, there is a lot to see I will have to return for. Last Easter, I simply flew down for the weekend (wouldn't recommend changing hemisphere's for three days unless you have to) to see my 7th and final world … [Read more...]

The 17th Super Bock Super Rock in Lisbon

April 12, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

Since it is never too early to find out about big music events and festival season is about to kick off, let's turn our attention to Lisbon, Portugal because from July 14th until the 16th it will host the 17th edition of the Super Bock Super Rock, one of the biggest rock festivals in Portugal. I have to be a bit more precise, as the actual place of the festival is Meco, Sesimbra which is about 40km away from Lisbon which make this an … [Read more...]

Foodie Field Trip: Los Alamos

April 6, 2011 by Rachel DuchakLeave a Comment

For our first field trip, we headed to Los Alamos, about an hour south of San Luis Obispo and an hour north of Santa Barbara. Rolling the dice for a sunny weekend with dry pavement after a solid week of gray rain, we scored with great weather on Sunday and a pleasant loop road ride through the hills east of town along Cat, Foxen, and Alisos Canyons. But before the sunshine, the rain had a few more things to say. Gloomy Saturdays are made for … [Read more...]
