More from Sydney…

January 8, 2013 by Dave5 Comments

This time of year is an extremely pricey time to be in Sydney (Sydney is not a cheap city to travel in regardless of the time of year) - the New Years Eve fireworks over the opera house is watched by 1.5 billion people around the world and visitors from the rest of Australia and around the world come here to see this annual event. The harbor and streets are all closed to traffic during this time - and the choice viewing spots near the Opera house … [Read more...]

Interesting & Unique Hotels

January 3, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Some weeks we wade through hundreds of links to add to our always growing travel links directory (over 20,000 now!) - occasionally we update several thousand in a week. Every once in a while we come across some interesting sites for whatever reason - while adding additional hotels to our directory - here are a few interesting ones we came across: Boutique hotel based in Paris: Hotel Costes - this one takes the cake for creative video … [Read more...]

Hanging out in Narita Japan

June 29, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Woke up this morning on some straw mat in a room I had never seen before. This was fine as I'm used to sleeping on hard surfaces. The confusion became clearer as the fog lifted from the sleep deprived mind and I vaguely remembered landing in Narita, Japan last night. The drive to this guesthouse was a blur - but I do remember the driver turning off his engine at every stop light, turning off his lights every time he stopped and driving with both … [Read more...]

Livingstone Zambia

February 13, 2012 by Dave4 Comments

Greetings from the Jollyboy Backpackers Guesthouse. Long gone are the old days of backpacking - where amenities were basic and services on the light side. Here you have excellent Internet access (by sub Saharan Africa standards), a pool, full kitchen and a variety of falls and safari related activities to choose from. The backpackers lodge in Victoria Falls we stayed at even had several onsite masseuses! The "no man's zone" - the area between … [Read more...]

Visiting Auschwitz, Krakow Poland

September 20, 2011 by Dave5 Comments

Krakow is a significant cultural and historical center; there is much to see in and around the city. A visit to Auschwitz requires a full day, including the main camp and then minutes away by a free shuttle, Auschwitz II-Birkenau. During the hours of 10-3pm you must pay to join a guided tour (given in a variety of languages). Human genocides do not get any bigger than this and a visit here is a solemn and moving experience. Exhibits showing … [Read more...]

Notes On Ecuador

August 2, 2010 by AnonymousLeave a Comment

You open your eyes to find you are sitting in a cloud. The road is winding and as you pass each curve, the clouds gather, closer, until the fog outside the window is fresh and you can almost feel its powder settling into every crevice of your face. Occasionally flashes of green peaks, petals that curl upwards to grab onto the moist air. A comfortably slow conversation with your friend in the seat beside you, melancholic and then bright, like the … [Read more...]

Amazing Moscow. A visit to Moscow only leaves you wanting to spend more time here. Moscow delivers beautiful architecture including incredible onion domed cathedrals, world class museums, shopping and nightlife. We recently spent a few days in this amazing city. We recommend at least 4-5 full days to experience the highlights of Moscow. First things first; all visitors to Russia must acquire a visa before entering the country and the tourist … [Read more...]
