Finding a Great Guide in Guadeloupe: Security Guard + Convenience Store

January 22, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Wandering the streets of Pointe-à-Pitre I thought I would head over to the cruise ship terminal and see if I could hook up with an in English tour (like I successfully did in Martinique). However it was another story here. The only info station I could see was behind the gates of the cruise ship terminal (and without being a passenger on one of the cruise ships I was not allowed entry). I yelled through the gates to attract the attention of the … [Read more...]

My 5 Favorite Caribbean Destinations

January 17, 2017 by Dave2 Comments

I have been fortunate to have visited all countries in the Caribbean except for Haiti and have visited nearly all of the territories. Haiti is definitely on the list for upcoming visits. I have stayed in a wide variety of accommodation in the region including a number of luxury properties. Luxury Retreats recently reached out to me; they focus on high end vacation rentals worldwide including a number of Caribbean luxury vacations. After … [Read more...]

Petit St. Vincent: A Caribbean Gourmet Getaway

December 30, 2016 by Allison Tibaldi2 Comments

The Grenadines are a chain of Caribbean islands that have been only lightly touched by mass tourism. For water enthusiasts, it’s a treasure chest of crystalline seas, undisturbed coral reefs and top-notch diving. I’ve visited a number of Instagram-worthy Caribbean Islands but the Grenadines are my numero uno. Time spent in this part of the world is an instant elixir to my stress-filled urban existence. As a foodie, no vacation is complete if … [Read more...]

Secret Bay, Dominica

December 24, 2016 by Dave2 Comments

A stay here is for the discerning traveler who highly values an intimate setting (4 acres total) combined with appealing natural surroundings, the utmost privacy and a property that maintains a beautiful silence. This clifftop location features merely eight villas and bungalows. The villas are more spacious then the bungalows; each villa comes with its own plunge pool. But all come with excellent views. Appropriately there is a secret beach at … [Read more...]

Remembering My Time on Paros, Greece

December 13, 2016 by Dave1 Comment

Of all the islands I have visited over the years, the first island I ever visited in Europe many years ago left a lasting impression on me. This was Paros, Greece. I was backpacking with my brother throughout Europe in summer. We had just arrived in Athens where the city was suffering through it's worst heat wave of the season with temperatures in the day hovering in the low 40's (105+ F). Incidentally Athens holds the record temperature for any … [Read more...]

Five Places to visit in Europe During Winter

December 5, 2016 by Megan TLeave a Comment

When the days become shorter and temperatures start to drop, you know that winter is on its way. Although some people like to wrap up warm and get cosy in front of an open fire, the rest of us get impatient for the return of hot weather and glorious sunshine. But rather than waiting months on end for summer to return, why not take a trip to more sultry climes instead? In Europe for example, there are several places where you can wear shorts … [Read more...]

Landing in Paradise, St. Barths

November 23, 2016 by Dave4 Comments

The southern side of the island of St. Barths where the D211 highway meets the ocean again feels like a number of now built up island tourist hubs would have felt 60 years ago. A few homes are visible between the green of the vegetation and dot parts of the hillside, but that is it. There are no high rise condo's here or mass tourism. However, with a little 'vision' one can clearly see an unfortunate busy alternative. From where I am staying … [Read more...]

Sirmione, Lake Garda: When You Need a Vacation From Your Vacation

September 27, 2016 by Angela Matano2 Comments

Churches, paintings and palaces are all well and good, great even, but sometimes a traveler needs a little respite from all that culture (right, honey?). Lake Como may be the most famous and glitterati-ist body of water in Italy, thanks to you, Mr. George Clooney, but Lake Garda sparkles quietly, like a hidden gem – at least as far as Americans are concerned. The largest lake in the country, Lake Garda is about an hour’s train ride from … [Read more...]

Tori James, Adventurer and Speaker

August 6, 2016 by Dave1 Comment

I briefly met Tori earlier this year at a travel blogging conference (Traverse) 16 in Cardiff, Wales where she gave the opening welcome speech. Her adventures are nothing short of amazing, reaching the summit of Mt. Everest at age 25, participating in the first ever all-female team in a 360 mile race to the Magnetic North Pole (successfully reaching the pole), and significant cycling, kayaking and other outdoor adventure feats. She is an … [Read more...]

A Shot of Color in the Jungle, Emerald Pool and the Blue Pool – With a Heated Natural Stream Thrown in for Good Measure!

July 25, 2016 by Dave4 Comments

We shot by the Krabi Airport in our tiny rented car - on our way to the Emerald Pool from Phulay Bay. We tried to wake up early and beat the rush at this natural attraction but by the time we were within spitting distance of the pool, it was already nearly 10am. All the locals we talked to highly recommended getting here before 10am as this attraction can quickly fill up with several hundred tourists after 10am. Supposedly vans and buses carrying … [Read more...]
