'Discover Torrance' Visitors Bureau Created
To Promote Tourism To This Los Angeles County City

Torrance, CA (January 3, 2011)
— In a bid to create a greater awareness for itself as an affordable,
safe, and attractive Southern California tourism destination, a lodging
group of 14 hotels of more than 50 rooms has partnered with the City of
Torrance and the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce to create
Discover Torrance
(a non profit 501c6 organization),
the
official visitors bureau for Torrance, California.
Additionally, Heather Johnston has been named as the organization's
Executive Director, it was announced by Pam Ryan, Chair of Discover
Torrance's Executive Board and General Manager of the Torrance Marriott
South Bay. Ms. Johnston comes to Discover Torrance with a wealth of
tourism marketing and sales experience having worked at the Irvine
Company, the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, and serving on various
state, regional, and international tourism committees. Discover
Torrance has enlisted the help of Paolucci Communication Arts to help
with managing the rebranding and marketing of the city.
Centrally located near Redondo Beach, Hollywood, Los Angeles, the
University of Southern California (USC), and Long Beach, Torrance
currently offers a diverse range of hotels with a total of 2,500 guest
rooms which provide the perfect home base from which to see all things
Southern California. Torrance is just a short drive from Los Angeles
Airport (LAX) and Long Beach Airport (LGB), beautiful beaches, Los
Angeles Harbor, Disneyland Resort, Universal Studios, and other Southern
California attractions.
For
those who love to shop, Torrance is home to world-famous Del Amo Fashion
Center (the fifth largest shopping mall in the U.S.) and pristine
Torrance Beach. Additionally, the historic downtown area
is consistently ranked as one the safest communities in Los Angeles
County. Torrance prides itself on big city amenities with small town
charm. One such example is the annual Armed Forces Day Parade, which
the city is well known for. It was first produced in 1960 and is the
longest running military parade sponsored by a city. It is held annually
on Armed Forces Day (the third Saturday in May), and runs down Torrance
Boulevard. The parade features military vehicles, school bands, and
prominent community members
Discover Torrance is available to assist consumers and travel agents in
planning a Southern California vacation by using Torrance as a home
base. The organization can provide information on hotels in the area,
top attractions, events, and more.
