The times when graffiti and other forms of street art were considered to disgrace whatever surface they were on have long passed. What used to be called vandalism by juvenile delinquents is now art and street art has hit the mainstream art scene establishing itself as an accepted art form with growing popularity. Berlin is considered to be one of the most important hubs when it comes to street art. Since the early 90s, after the fall of the … [Read more...]

The Oltrarno District in Florence

October 17, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

As Florence is the cradle of the Renaissance movement and it is the home of many key monuments and art works if this time, it is not surprising that the city has a lively art scene to this day. The district of Oltrarno is the heart and soul of Florence when it comes to the creation of art. Michelangelo studied the anatomy of the human body right here. To be more exact the Santo Spirito Church is where he dissected and studied cadavers. In … [Read more...]

Guidelines for a Paella Valenciana

October 11, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

The paella is arguably the Spanish national dish to many foreigners. The original paella, however, originates from Valencia. Staying in Valencia apartments you will definitely find the authentic paella valenciana, but unfortunately, in the touristic zones of any Spanish city the restaurants will sell you anything as the most authentic paella. The best solution to this problem is of course being hands on trying to cook a paella yourself, but being … [Read more...]

A Gaudi Walk in Barcelona

October 3, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

The name Antoni Gaudi is synonymous with the magnificent architecture in Barcelona. No visitor gets around admiring the great architectural legacy Gaudi has left. If you happen to stay in apartments in Barcelona directly in the center some of the most prominent Gaudi buildings are in mere walking distance: As a good starting point of a Gaudi walk in the center is the Palau Guell (Carrer Nou de la Rambla, 3) right off the Ramblas. It … [Read more...]

The European Nightlife

September 27, 2011 by Miss Moci1 Comment

A big appeal of a big city for visitors and residents equally is the variety in its cultural offer but also in its nightlife. Where it is rather easy to find your way around to visit the most important cultural and historical sights and monuments, it is always nice for visitors to know where the local crowd goes for a drink and some music. What is to follow is a list of several cities in Europe that I have been to and that are known to have a … [Read more...]

Where to listen and dance to traditional Hungarian music

September 18, 2011 by NevaLeave a Comment

As it is well known Hungary it is an exception in linguistic terms, as it's the only country in the central Europe where a non Indo-European language is spoken. This part of the world is also very peculiar for its music traditions especially because the Hungarians are making a big effort to preserve their traditional music and dance. The great Hungarian composer and pianist Bela Bartok himself has studied folk music deeply. Together with … [Read more...]

Paris by boat in September

September 13, 2011 by MaikeLeave a Comment

September is a month of transition. Summer and vacation are ending. People go back to school and back to work. The slow rhythm of the summer accelerates a bit again and cities are coming back to life. Despite the return of this routine September is an excellent month to travel. The peak holiday season is over and you avoid big tourist crowds. Of course, a city like Paris doesn't really have downtime with fewer visitors, but the temperatures … [Read more...]

Villa d’Este in Tivoli

September 6, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

The first time I visited Rome a couple of years I stayed for over a week in one of the Rome apartments which was plenty of time to see the most important in the city, but also a couple of other monuments and sights that are outside of the city. My favorite sights in Rome by far were the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum and the Sistine Chapel inside of the Vatican. We also did a few daytrips to take full advantage of the surroundings. My … [Read more...]

A Quick Guide to El Rastro in Madrid

August 30, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

If you are familiar with flea markets it is no secret that people that frequent these types of markets aren't simply interested in purchasing something (most of the time cheap, but already used). Flea markets are attractive for the thrill of negotiating, the curiosities one finds and people watching due to the eclectic mix of people you will see. If you rent apartments in Madrid you can't miss out on the experience of El Rastro which is … [Read more...]
