LOS ANGELES, CA (19 November 2013) The Global Scavenger Hunt™, the world’s only open around the world travel adventure competition that annually crowns The World’s Greatest Travelers™, has a different way of looking at travel.
“We hear from hundreds of people every year about how participating in our event is on their so-called travel Bucket List, so maybe someday they will join us. This got me to thinking,” says author and Event Director William D. Chalmers. “It seems to me people are too focused on fulfilling a check list of travel items they feel they ought to see. We should have a travel list of things we really should be doing now, not hopefully before you die, but now!”
We all know what Bucket Lists are, your personal list of things you want to do before you die. Sadly, despite good intentions, most just never quite get them all checked off. So how about creating a Living List? A list of things that you can and want to do now—living life as if there will be no tomorrow? No woulda, coulda, shoulda’s, but now!
Of course looking at your entire life this way could be a daunting proposition, but liberating too. Relationships, jobs, and unfulfilling lives would need to be evaluated as if today were the last day of your life. “We are just looking at the travel Living List, not the deeper existential philosophical issues of life,” continues Chalmers laughing.
Travel-related Bucket List items, is just check list travel—been there, done that, what’s next? Travel consumers are nothing more than filling a shopping list; it can become a job. Whereas a travel Living List would look at traveling differently, it would focus on the living here and now in the moment, by among other things: allowing serendipity into your travel plans; actually meeting people in remote destinations; soaking up natural beauty and exotic sunrises and sunsets; offering to help people help themselves by volunteering time and energy in an unscheduled way; regaining the mystery and romance of travel; engaging in transformative experiences rather than just consuming travel; and finally, looking at life as becoming an experience-rich thrillionaire, not a material-rich millionaire.
The Global Scavenger Hunt, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2014, offers travelers a novel way to travel and experience the world. Not just passive sight-seeing, the annual travel adventure set to depart April 11, 2014, is all about site-doing. The event is known for successfully creating highly-interactive and culturally-oriented scavenges for its participants to engage in, that are authentic, challenging, participatory, and oh so rewarding. For three weeks circumnavigating the globe through ten secret countries, the annual adventure is all about testing participants travel savvy, travel IQ and cultural competence as they are compelled to trust strangers in strange lands. It is a new way of traveling.
The event is limited to just 15 teams of two, and the $10,900 per person entry fee includes: all international airfare, first class hotels, 40% of meals and special event gear. Single travelers are welcome to apply and all travelers are interviewed for suitability. Please contact: GreatEscape Adventures at 1.310.281.7809, or apply online at GlobalScavengerHunt.com.
