With Native Host Phil Keoghan; Aired March 3, 2013
Highlights Beauty of Region with Nine Teams Competing and Exploring Canterbury
Santa Monica, CA (March 4, 2013) – The Emmy award-winning, CBS television show The Amazing Race took viewers through the picturesque and adventurous destination of New Zealand on March 3, 2013 during its 22nd season with host and native Phil Keoghan. The nine remaining teams of two competed for a US$1 million prize as they explored the Canterbury region.
As an extra special episode to long-time host and New Zealand native Keoghan, the 18 remaining competitors took part in typical Kiwi activities that included jet boating, ATVing through rivers and piloting rally cars. The group flew into the garden city of Christchurch in New Zealand’s South Island, and took a short drive to the banks of the Rakaia River where the race began.
Visitors to New Zealand can follow in the footsteps of The Amazing Race with a variety of activities. Adventurous travelers can raft, fish or jet boat along the glacial-fed Rakaia River gorge, while those seeking relaxation can golf or simply sip a glass of wine at the Terrace Downs resort, set at the foot of the stunning Southern Alps mountain range.
As New Zealand’s largest region, Canterbury’s landscape is breathtaking and memorable where it rises from the Pacific Ocean and offers a backdrop of natural diversity from braided river valleys to soaring mountains. Canterbury is also home to Akaroa, a quaint French inspired seaside village; Kaikoura, New Zealand’s most popular whale watching destination and Tekapo, where you can visit the largest Dark Sky Reserve in the southern hemisphere.
