by Dave · Leave a Comment

Prices are listed where available. Generally the prices for lodging are quite a bit higher then in the rest of Florida, especially during the "on" season during the winter months. Prices may drop by half during the off season in the summer. However, the prices will still be quite high. Visitors to Key West should start their journey at the Key West Welcome Center located at 1601 North Roosevelt Blvd. Friendly staff provide current travel … [Read more...]

Mt. Shasta, CA – Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

The following attractions are in or around the town of Mt. Shasta - or slightly further afield, but all are in Siskiyou County. Castle Crags are well worth a visit. Besides Mt. Shasta, the crags are what most people remember about their drive north on Interstate 5. These sharp rock formations rise in elevation from 2000 feet to over 6500 feet. There are over 27 miles of developed hiking trails in the Castle Crags area. Pull into the main … [Read more...]

Reno, NV – Casinos

by Dave · Leave a Comment

For those serious gamblers, for those who perhaps just dabble in gambling, and for those who don't gamble but want to see the action - Reno offers a pleasing diversity of casinos. And most of these casinos feature a large hotel, often in a separate building from the casino (sometimes connected by walkways). The majority of the casinos feature doors that must be pushed open - and once you push through a second set of doors, you are deposited into … [Read more...]

Reno, NV – Lodging

by Dave · 3 Comments

Accommodation in Reno is diverse and varied from the larger casinos to many vintage "one-star" motels - usually one or two stories and often in a state of various decay. Reno is lacking in boutique hotels. Prices for hotel rooms tend to be fairly affordable, perhaps somewhat subsidized or supported by the gambling industry. All Phone Numbers are in the 775 area code. Please also visit our Reno Casino page for additional information about … [Read more...]

Guadalajara, Mexico – Hotels

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Because Guadalajara is so spread out geographically, driving distances between hotels can be as much as 30+ minutes. Note: some of these hotels are located in Tlaquepaque, an artisan based suburb about 20 minutes from downtown Guadalajara. We have visited, stayed or received recommendations for most of the ones listed below. Readers have also emailed us their comments about some of these hotels and in some cases have suggested additional … [Read more...]

This is the second of 4 articles that originally appeared on Dave's Travel Corner about select locations in Mexico. The first one was about Oaxaca City, and the 3rd and 4th articles include Colima City and Guadalajara. A 5th article about Xcalak on the Yucatan Peninsula is also available. The beautiful town of Manzanillo is located in the state of Colima, Mexico. For reference, Manzanilla is located about 4.5 hours south of Puerto Vallarta. … [Read more...]

Manzanillo, Mexico – Beaches

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Playa San Pedrito is the closest beach to the central part of the city. It is about 1km from the zocalo. However, it is not the cleanest beach due to its proximity to the port. Playa Las Brisas is slightly further from the city; it is used by guests at several resorts but is also open to the general public. Playa Azul is a long beach that curves around the Bahia de Manzanillo Bay. Our favorite beaches in the region are on the … [Read more...]

Manzanillo, Mexico – Cuyutlan & Paraiso

by Dave · 4 Comments

Cuyutlan & Paraiso are located 30 miles southeast of Manzanillo. Not built up, a number of smaller fishing villages are located in the region along with several fine seafood restaurants. I like this area compared to the city of Manzanillo because this is rural Mexico and is well-removed from the beaten path of many tourists. It is a popular spot for vacationing Mexican families, many of whom are from Guadalajara. Cuyutlan like several of the … [Read more...]
