10 Inspirational Travel Instagram Accounts Worth Following

March 15, 2019 by Dave19 Comments

This wonderful planet features a diversity of inspirational and beautiful places. Some travelers have been able to create careers out of exploring a range of often niche experiences or locations. For them, travel is a passion and certainly a huge part of their lifestyles. And in deciding which accounts to feature here, I started pondering - what would Ansel Adams or more recently, Galen Rowell think about the incredible amount of digital … [Read more...]

March 1, 2019 by DaveLeave a Comment

As real as it gets - author Devin Galaudet (also known for attempting to marry his wife 100x in 100 different countries) has written a fast read and engrossing memoir about the realities of growing up in Los Angeles in the 1970s and 1980s centered around his chain smoking father. Full of family stories, sometimes family secrets and growing pains this story is woven around Devin's at times on and off again relationship with his father. … [Read more...]

An Interesting Mix of Activities & Distractions in Guyana, South America

February 15, 2019 by Dave16 Comments

The final touchdown could not come soon enough. 39 hours prior I left my place in California for the airport at 430am. After a night in Miami (part of which involved nearly a 2 hour drive to go 3.1 miles from the airport - you think Los Angeles traffic is horrendous, think again), I finally arrived in Guyana. Most people I told prior to my trip that I was going to Guyana greeted me with a blank stare. The few older folks correctly equated Guyana … [Read more...]

From Los Angeles to Bogota – a Day Trip

January 19, 2019 by Abdul Rastagar2 Comments

Yup, you read the headline right. I made a day trip to Bogota, Colombia from Los Angeles, USA. I'm probably not the first one to do it, but I bet not many people have done it before. So how'd it happen? Mostly through my opportunism: I managed to squeeze in a stop in Bogota while on my way to Santiago, Chile. It wasn't really on my original plans but I had a choice of two flights - one with a 4-hour layover in Lima, Peru and one with a 16-hour … [Read more...]

The Pull of Haystack Rock: Why I Keep Coming Back

January 14, 2019 by Courtney MyersLeave a Comment

I'm from a sleepy town in the Triad region of North Carolina. All my life, my parents took us kids to the closest beach on the east coast there was: good, old-fashioned Myrtle. Even back in the mid-1990s, it was a treasure trove of commercialism, with high-rise condos juxtaposed against centuries-old motels still somewhat holding on, amid the tearing down of the old Pavillion and the installation of a brand-new boardwalk. My toes never touched … [Read more...]

Los Angeles by Serge Ramelli

November 1, 2018 by DaveLeave a Comment

This book showed up one day, still warm from sitting in the California sun. It is an impressive collection of epic photographs of this great city. The lightning in Ramelli's captures makes the City of Angels pop in a way not always seen. From downtown to the beaches, to architecture - these are inspiring photographs of America's second largest city. The photographs are laid out as double page spreads - providing maximum effect on the use of … [Read more...]

The Greatest Spot in Los Angeles

October 17, 2018 by Abdul Rastagar1 Comment

Los Angeles is like few cities in the world.
