Naughty City Names

June 20, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Sperling’s BestPlaces finds 13 real U.S. cities and towns with hilariously risqué names 1. Buttzville, New Jersey - Population 194 - Median Home Price $172,700 According to Wikipedia, the town was named after its founder, Michael Robert Buttz. Naturally, he wanted to spread his grief to future generations by naming a town Buttzville. Sure, he could've gone with Michael City but perhaps that sounded too cool. 2. Dick Johnson, … [Read more...]

An Afternoon in Brooklyn’s Park Slope

January 13, 2016 by Brian Cicioni1 Comment

I recently spent a Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn’s Park Slope. There were a handful of places I wanted to visit to make the nearly 30 minute trip from Washington Square Park worthwhile. I played U2’s The Joshua Tree on my new iPhone 6S and boarded the D train to the Atlantic Av-Pacific St. From there, I intended to transfer to the 2-3 line, but there was a delay, so I boarded the Q train and took it one stop to 7 Av instead. This area was new … [Read more...]

Walking from Pennsylvania to New Jersey & Back

November 19, 2015 by Brian CicioniLeave a Comment

I recently spent my first full day in Easton, PA. Although, I’d driven through Easton hundreds of times over the past 19 years, I never spent a full day exploring on foot. Known to many as the birthplace of former boxing heavyweight champion, Larry Holmes and home of the Crayola Factory, Easton lies on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River. The Lehigh River meets the Delaware River just south of the Northampton Street Bridge, which connects … [Read more...]

Walking from New Jersey to New York and Back

October 7, 2015 by Brian CicioniLeave a Comment

Over the past 2 years, I’ve walked over the BMW (Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg) bridges, which connect Brooklyn and Manhattan. This summer, I finally walked over the George Washington Bridge and highly recommend it to any urban explorer. As a car owner who lives in Pennsylvania, I drove as close as possible to the pedestrian entrance on the New Jersey side of the bridge. If you are a history buff (like myself), I recommend parking at Fort … [Read more...]

My New Jersey Adventure

June 20, 2014 by Mike W2 Comments

Ok, let’s be honest, besides Six Flags, the only part of New Jersey any traveler in their right mind would bother visiting is the boardwalk of Atlantic City on the New Jersey Shore. As an addict of the HBO series ‘Boardwalk Empire’, I finally got the opportunity to explore the world renowned Atlantic City Boardwalk. Built in 1870, the American landmark is lined with shops, restaurants, food stands, casinos and is ideal for people-watching. … [Read more...]

31st Annual Whitesbog Blueberry Festival, June 28th, Browns Mills, NJ

June 8, 2014 by DaveLeave a Comment

This annual celebration of all things blueberry – the official state fruit of New Jersey – is considered to be one of the finest old-fashioned festivals in the tri-state region. The Burlington County Times described the Whitesbog Blueberry Festival as “a reminder that good old country life is alive and well” in the region. Browns Mills, New Jersey, June 3rd, 2014 - The 31st Annual Whitesbog Blueberry Festival will be held Saturday, June 28th, … [Read more...]

Dispatch: Atom Ant Japanese Houseguest

June 6, 2014 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

John M. Edwards receives a strange visitor from the Nipponese “Land of the Rising Sun,” who is, of course, despite a strong yen, ultimately a freeloader. In Westfield, New Jersey, United States, North American Continent, at my apt upstairs from the now-long-gone Tullio’s Hair Salon (which daily pumped up the odoriferous air of Free Heat, Aqua Velva, and Brill Cream), I received a visitor from not another planet exactly but instead from a way … [Read more...]

Cuisine Minceur: Eat, Pay, More

April 19, 2014 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

John M. Edwards explores the popular Foodie movement of “Cuisine Minceur” (small food), invented in Les Landes, France, wherein gullible gourmands counting calories get much less food for much more money. . . . I feel sorry for the people who use the term “FOODIE.” It is a term less about the ends justifying the means and more about just being mean. Whenever I hear the euphemism, I flinch involuntarily, as when your PC (“pretend … [Read more...]

Charles Addams Family Values

April 11, 2014 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

John M. Edwards, a paparazzo of the paranormal, stalks the The New Yorker’s most famous and fiendish poltergeist cartoonist back to his moody hometown: Westfield, New Jersey. “Give me a place to stand on, and I will have the earth.” --ARCHIMEDES In Westfield, New Jersey, I finally found the moody manse of cartoonist Charles Addams, probably The New Yorker’s most famous and fiendish cartoonist, and also the inspiration for the TV series … [Read more...]
