Six Things You Didn’t Know About Beijing

December 10, 2016 by Abdul RastagarLeave a Comment

“I speak and speak. But the listener retains only the words he is expecting." So cautioned Marco Polo as he left the court of the great Kublai Khan in Dadu (modern day Beijing) in the year 1295 C.E. Certainly this was a timely reminder for me as I stepped off the plane in Beijing for the first time. Over the years, I had heard lots about Beijing, most of which with a negative slant. Much to my delight, I encountered a wonderful and fascinating … [Read more...]

Eating Essentials in New Haven, CT

November 22, 2016 by Marianne Ruane2 Comments

I’m not a big fan of pizza. I like it well enough, but I had never had a pizza that I thought was extraordinary. There is one exception - I’m originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania and pizza from the town of Old Forge really is delicious. But with square cuts from a big rectangular crust, thick tomato sauce, and an American cheese blend, Old Forge pizza always seemed outside the realm of ordinary pizza, in its own category, at least in my … [Read more...]

Driving the Denali Highway

November 12, 2016 by Chris Picardi1 Comment

During our eight days in Alaska, I don't think we had a single bad view, and the Denali Highway was no exception. The 135 mile, mostly-unpaved road connects the town of Cantwell to Paxson and was once the only road providing access to Denali National Park. Due to harsh winter conditions, the road is closed from October through mid-May, but if you have the opportunity to drive this road during the summer months, it will not disappoint. If you … [Read more...]

Thank you Capital One for sponsoring this post! All opinions are my own and were not directed by Capital One. To learn more about the Capital One Venture Card, visit: https://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/venture I boarded the plane in Las Vegas to New Orleans after just about breaking even on a quick play of several slot machines in the airport (a unique airport feature!). I knew this wasn't a typical flight when I saw all the Silver and … [Read more...]

October 5, 2016 by Dave2 Comments

NEW YORK, OCTOBER 4, 2016 — Every fall, approximately 10,000 tourists from around the world descend on “The Polar Bear Capital of the World,” Churchill, Manitoba. This community of about 800 people on Hudson Bay in Northern Canada is home to the annual migration of more than 1,000 hungry polar bears that pass through town as they wait for the Bay ice to return. I recently met Sam as part of a partnership I was helping to promote. I used HotelTonight for booking a last minute trip to New Orleans using it to find a centrally located hotel within a short walk of the famous French Quarter. The app is simple to use and offers excellent coverage of hotels in the United States and Europe as well as other International destinations. The idea behind HotelTonight is to provide discounted hotel rooms based on last … [Read more...]

Why George Town is Malaysia’s Coolest City

August 18, 2016 by Allison Green1 Comment

George Town Malaysia

The bustling streets of George Town, Penang offer up sights, sounds, and smells at every corner. From its street art to the street food, Georgetown is a city that seems to live in full view of the public, making outsiders feel like insiders.  Street Art George Town used to be the capital of Britain’s colonial outpost in Malaysia. Now, its claim to fame is being the capital of street art in Southeast Asia. In 2012, the city commissioned … [Read more...]
