July 28, 2017 by Dave7 Comments

We first became aware of WOW air several years ago because of their extremely low fares between Iceland and mainland Europe and then again when they started offering $99 fares from select US cities to Iceland. Recently we had the opportunity to interview their founder and CEO Skuli Mogensen. He is an accomplished and creative individual - here are several questions we asked him about WOW air and Iceland. Q. Introduce yourself and tell our … [Read more...]

Imagine, it's the beginning of July and you live in the northern hemisphere. You're likely engaged in swimming, hiking, barbecue and other fun summer outdoor activities. If you're American, you are probably making plans for Independence Day which will likely include outings to a concert or public event. Integrity in Grand Rapids-Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum

July 26, 2017 by Charlene Scott1 Comment

Gerald R. Ford, the 38th President of the United States, has the distinction of being the only person appointed to both the positions of Vice President and President. Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned in December, 1973. President Richard Nixon resigned on August 8, 1974. Nixon’s resignation was a first for the United States. Presidents have been assassinated and have died while in office but none had ever resigned. Ford was in the right place … [Read more...]

July 22, 2017 by Teh Chin Liang1 Comment

After recently visiting Luang Prabang, hindsight has given me a unique perspective of the region. I can inform you that not all activities were worthy of exploration. Kwang Xi Waterfalls: Tourists will be coaxed into visiting the waterfalls soon after they land - by … [Read more...]

Sunset at Bodie Island Light House

Many have been to Pea Island National Refuge when they drive down Hwy 12 in North Carolina’s Outer Banks (OBX) on the way to somewhere else. But, they may not know it. It’s a lonely stretch of road, often driven in silence as you take in what could be the country’s largest sandcastle held together by a strip of asphalt and a delicate truce with Mother Nature. Usually, vacationers are eager to get to their destination. They see this stretch of … [Read more...]

Moscow: Tagansky Bunker Blues

July 16, 2017 by Pete MartinLeave a Comment

I am early for the tour and am made to wait in the entrance hall. At least I am out of the snow, although it’s colder inside than it was outside. Exactly on schedule, I am ushered in for a security check and then taken back to the cold entrance room for an introduction. Sasha, a youthful but stern 20-something, is my guide. His English leaves much to be desired and he speaks in a loud, military-style voice that seems appropriate for this … [Read more...]

The Contrasts of Travel Experiences

July 15, 2017 by Dave10 Comments

The contrasts of travel create an intriguing dichotomy while on the road. Today is a good example of experiences on the extreme ends of the spectrum. I met a beautiful yoga instructor living on the island of St. Barths last week for about 5 minutes. This was in a "remote" part of that tiny island along the rugged shoreline in what the locals call the 'natural pools', a series of surf fed ocean water that creates several small swimming areas. … [Read more...]
