June 1, 2020 by Merlin Rivera1 Comment

el nido

El Nido is a municipality that lies in the northwest part of the Philippine island Palawan. The name comes from the Spanish word “nido”, which means a nest. Indeed, lots of tiny swiftlets live in the area and build edible nests in the limestone cliffs - hence the name. El Nido attracts travelers from all over the globe. If you are looking for a place with tourist shops on every corner, a distinct backpacker vibe, and tasty banana pancakes … [Read more...]

Land-based Casinos in New Zealand

May 24, 2020 by Trent SissokoLeave a Comment

Online casino has its strong points, especially if we consider that it’s constantly evolving and provides a pretty realistic playing experience these days. However, it still can’t replace that good-old feel we all have when we enter a classic brick and mortar casino. Therefore, a big number of players still prefer land-based casinos, mostly because of the atmosphere it brings. New Zealanders can enjoy traditional casino experience as well. … [Read more...]

Brazilian Cachaça trip day 7: Luis Alvez and Itajaí

May 17, 2020 by Peter BanksLeave a Comment

I’d been on the road for a week when I woke up in Itajaí, my last full day in Santa Catarina. The storm clouds had cleared and there were people getting in their morning exercise along the dishwater gray beach. An old couple sat on a park bench holding hands. I was on my way back to Luis Alvez to take a look at the fermentation and distillation processes. It was rush hour when I left. The city moved languidly around me as I maneuvered over … [Read more...]

Brazilian Cachaça trip, Days 5 and 6: Florianopolis, Itajai, Luis Alves, Santa Catarina

May 5, 2020 by Peter BanksLeave a Comment

I departed Nova Petropolis at 6:30 am. There were so many more things to see in Rio Grande do Sul, of that I was sure. But I had to get on the road, appreciate the tight curves and tailgaters for one last time. The nearly two hour drive back to the airport in Porto Alegre was relatively uneventful, fortunately. I’d chosen to fly with Gol for my entire trip, though I realized after I bought my tickets that it might have been better to mix up my … [Read more...]

Top Water Sports to Enjoy While on the Road

April 12, 2020 by DaveLeave a Comment

Some of my favorite activities while traveling are participating in a variety of water sports. Over the years I've often traveled to islands (especially in the Caribbean) where water sports are a part of the culture and often a part of people's daily lives. I've participated in the following water sports ... and you can to :) Stand up Paddle Board - my first introduction to stand up paddle boarding was a few years ago in Bermuda. During my … [Read more...]

Bucket-List Sailing Holidays

April 9, 2020 by Adil S1 Comment

When it comes to creating a bucket-list of holiday experiences you simply have to try, having a yacht or catamaran holiday features on almost everybody’s. Just imagine sitting on your own catamaran in a private bay, which you’ve gently bobbed and sailed across to, and that is miles away from anyone else. Your favourite music is playing, the smell of the barbecue being cooked drifts across, and you have your closest friends or family right there … [Read more...]

Setting your Sights on Singapore

April 9, 2020 by DaveLeave a Comment

Singapore Island is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. It is also one of the wealthiest South East Asian countries. The city is extremely clean and well manicured and is one of the cleanest large cities we have ever visited. During our recent stay it was not uncommon to find signs indicating $500 to $1000 Singapore dollars for various offenses ($330 to $660 US dollars). For instance it is against the law to jaywalk or eat … [Read more...]

From Sea to Shining Sea: Rediscovering America’s Beauty

March 17, 2020 by Olivia LivengLeave a Comment

One of the joys of being a travel writer is that I get to fulfill my quench for knowledge and adventure daily. Whether by plane, train or even camel on occasion, I am fortunate to explore the nooks and crannies of this planet, absorbing the cultures, traditions, religions and especially the cuisine of foreign lands. Amongst the passport stamps and customs checkpoints, it remains important to me to explore my roots. And that is why every year I … [Read more...]

Exploring the Island of Efate, Vanuatu

March 1, 2020 by Dave12 Comments

Circling the island of Efate by vehicle takes about 2 hours without stopping. I wanted a more in depth experience so I joined a small tour hosted by Atmosphere Tours, based in Port Vila. As we left Port Vila on the only road that circles the island (built by the Americans) our guide duly pointed out the last electrical pole some few clicks outside of the city. Beyond that, the villages do not have government provided electricity and if they have … [Read more...]
