Egypt Uncovered

May 20, 2009 by Acacia Adventure HolidaysLeave a Comment

A vast expanse of sand stretched out before me, the fine soft grains covered in abstract monoliths of all shapes and sizes. For a moment, I felt as though I had been transported onto the film set of a "Star Wars" movie. All I needed now was my son's light saber and you could call me Luke Skywalker. The rock-strewn landscape glittered like gold in the midday sun, the harsh rays bouncing off the twisted structures. Eager to get a birds eye view … [Read more...]

Amazing Moscow. A visit to Moscow only leaves you wanting to spend more time here. Moscow delivers beautiful architecture including incredible onion domed cathedrals, world class museums, shopping and nightlife. We recently spent a few days in this amazing city. We recommend at least 4-5 full days to experience the highlights of Moscow. First things first; all visitors to Russia must acquire a visa before entering the country and the tourist … [Read more...]

Gracias, Barcelona Bystanders

Barcelona skyline, Spain

The visit to the Pablo Picasso Museum was a mind-ruminating experience. I can't say I comprehended everything I saw, nor can I say I was able to appreciate everything I saw - what was up with that "blue period" and why did shading every drawing/painting in blue inherently give it special significance? Nevertheless, I enjoyed the tour and was reflecting on what I saw when I plopped myself down on a bench in a park across the street from the … [Read more...]

Hanging out in Hong Kong

April 1, 2009 by Dave2 Comments

Hong Kong is a bustling city of between 7 and 9 million people (depending on the source you reference. While governed by China, Hong Kong does not require visit visas from citizens of many countries. This is in contrast to mainland China where you will need a visa to enter; the closest mainland entry city to Hong Kong is Shenzhen. Hong Kong was a dependent territory of the United Kingdom from the early 1840's until 1997. You may still find … [Read more...]

Eight Great Small Escapes

March 9, 2009 by Suzanne AaronsonLeave a Comment

Save time and airfare by driving or taking the train to a getaway near you ... Like most people, you're likely watching your wallet more carefully these days and a big trip may not be on your list for this year. But getting away doesn't need to be a big affair to an exotic locale. Sometimes the best trips are close to home, especially when they maximize your time off and minimize your impact on the environment; by choosing a leisurely car or … [Read more...]

Wadi’s, Deserts, Ocean, Arabic Hospitality – Enjoying Oman

March 2, 2009 by DaveLeave a Comment

The following is taken from Dave's Journal regarding his time in Oman in which he covered parts of Muscat, several Wadi's including Tiwi, the fort town of Nizwa, the main north south highway, and many areas within several hours driving of Salalah in the south. We have driven over 2000 miles so far! I must say that Oman is TRULY THE PINNACLE of off roading! With its huge, steep, rocky, remote wadis, large sand dunes, and tracks anywhere you … [Read more...]

Dhaka, Bangladesh

February 1, 2009 by Dave3 Comments

If you are looking for a country that often many westerner's cannot even identify its location on a map, a place where foreigners are generally treated with care and respect, a country that has not been polluted with tourism, the "land of smiles" and a country where you will rarely see foreign tourists, then consider a trip to Bangladesh. However note that tourism can be difficult for independent travelers. Airfare is generally fairly … [Read more...]

Relaxing in Ubud, Bali

January 1, 2009 by Dave7 Comments

Recently we were in Bali for a week. We spent most of our time in the Ubud area and this article focuses on area attractions and information regarding this region. The closest International Airport is in Denpasar which is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the town of Ubud. From the airport the cheapest way to get to Ubud is to take a taxi to the bus station in Legion/Kuta and from the station, a bus to the bus station in Ubud. Note that … [Read more...]
