Essential tips for visiting the Pyramids

October 16, 2019 by Rik SnuiverinkLeave a Comment

As bucket list destinations go, the Pyramids of Giza are a feature that will appear in most people’s Top Ten. That’s as it should be – The Great Pyramid is the oldest Wonder of the World, and the only one that can still be seen and touched to this day. Hardly surprising, then, that the Pyramids attract almost 15 million visitors every year. Planning on joining them? Here’s all you need to know. Dress appropriately If your sole experience of … [Read more...]

Exploring Paramaribo, Suriname the Fun Way!

October 15, 2019 by Dave9 Comments

After a nearly 13 hour car + van ride from Georgetown in Guyana which began at 4am and included a 4 hour border crossing (slow ferry a big part of this), I arrived in Paramaribo in the late afternoon. Exhausted after eating only an energy bar I found tucked away in my backpack given to me weeks ago by Jacki Ueng I checked into the Guesthouse Zin & Grand Cafe. For only $23/night it included a private room with AC and use of their pool. I soon … [Read more...]

Sunrise at the Grand Canyon

October 14, 2019 by Jacki UengLeave a Comment

As one might imagine, watching the sunrise at the Grand Canyon, a United Nations-dubbed World Heritage Site, is nothing short of amazing. Coming in at about 2,000 square miles, the Grand Canyon is truly massive. It’s so big, in fact, that watching the sunrise in one section of the canyon is oftentimes a completely different experience than watching it from another area. Why? The Grand Canyon has a huge variety of terrains and biomes. You can find … [Read more...]

Making the most out of your Minneapolis layover

October 11, 2019 by Abdul Rastagar2 Comments

So you have a long layover at Minneapolis-St. Paul airport? You can do what most people do - take the train over to nearby Mall of America and join the packed masses jamming through the second largest mall in North America. Or you can get off a couple of stops sooner on that same train and find yourself all alone in nature, hiking among the beautiful marshes of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. I'll take option 2 anytime. Get … [Read more...]

Fjords of Iceland

October 8, 2019 by Abdul Rastagar1 Comment

Of my 13 trips to Iceland so far, my most memorable one was my first time there, in 2002, when I happened to meet my future wife. At a distant second was our trip in the summer of 2011, when we took a week-long road trip through the West Fjords region, the far northwestern peninsula that juts out into the cold North Atlantic Ocean like a dragon's head on a Viking longboat. It's not necessarily an inaccessible nor difficult drive to get … [Read more...]

Bum Guns: A Love Story

October 5, 2019 by Kyle David IversonLeave a Comment

Bum Gun Title Page

Pants around my ankles, I can’t look away. It’s staring at me, a droplet of water slithering slowly down its face. The droplet reaches the bottom, clings, swells, then splatters against the tile floor. And I’m thinking no, I mean, they can’t, can they? They can’t actually- the angles alone! But they must, because every bathroom into which I’ve slapped my slippery flip-flops as one installed. Right there, next to the toilet. Sometimes righty, … [Read more...]

Backpackers and travel enthusiasts around the world descend on Thailand each year for its unique culture, food, and atmosphere.
